    It tragic incident .

the difference is the officer is already arrested and a probe is going in where as in India we still don't who attacked churches and others who say inflammatory statements go scotfree . Modi woke up now after Delhi debacle and after a school was attacked to tell police chief to look into incidents

Check the video again. The man was pushed to the ground so harshly that it injured his spinal cord and was not in a capacity to even stand up.

Police are not expected to speak every language. But they are not supposed to use force at an unarmed senior citizen. Would the police would have behaved in the same way in case of a Caucasian senior citizen with Alzheimer and doesn't remember much about himself?

When police officers are getting acquitted for killing people, this may just end up as a slap on the wrist.

Steve, The indian community is shocked and worried. At such time, comforting words from the politicians are needed to allay the fears and put pressure on the police force to show restrain.

When police officers are acquitted in case of killing people, where would this case stand? The man is paralyzed and is shocked and scared. What kind of compensation would heal him?

Viswa Sir, it is not only a training issue but also the upbringing and brainwashing that happens from the right wing. Once i happen to listen to a talk show of a right wing radio station and was shocked at what kind of message they spread, it makes even taliban look good.

Rightly said! In India more such incidents happen on the basis of race, caste and nothing is done. Here you can see immediate reaction.

But i don't think in India, police forces a senior citizen like this. I wouldn't have been so reactive if some young person, not speaking english would have been subjected to such cruelty.

Compensation can not undo the damage now.

Any amount of training can not make up for lack of basic sense. Wonder why such idiots are recruited in the police force.

He got his GreenCard through his son who is a citizen. Parents of adult citizens get the GC with a very short waiting list. This uncle came to US few weeks ago to live with his son.

It is very easy to judge from the comfort of our home how the police force lack common sense. Until, we go on calls of varying nature where the life is at risk, one can never find out their reasoning for their behavior. That is why they need better training to make split second decisions. There are more police officers who got hurt or lost their life while on duty than innocent public. The police force is generally to deal with criminals and occasionally they have to deal with innocent people, probably one in one thousand reported incidences. Let us be realistic.

It is also very easy to trivialize someone else's personal tragedy, and I am not going to do that.

The police is there to protect public. The policemen are supposed to inspire confidence in the common people. There are enough criminals to cause harm to common people. When these things happen, one does wonder why? There are risks involved in a policeman's job. There are also ample rewards. If the risks seem too much, people can decide not to go for this particular job.

I do think he should have had the sense to judge that the man is not armed and not dangerous. He is old, after all, and a visitor, with no knowledge of English. Sometimes, it is just common sense, and not split second decisions that are required. He should have the sense to know when to apply his policeman training, and when to think on his own. This is part of any job, and a very basic thing. Without this skill, no one can perform well at their job. Training can only take you so far.
