    Hi sriniketan,

I usually mix 1cup of bleached all purpose flour to 2cups of whole wheat flour.Do not use unbleached flour which is nothing but maida.

    cheers,
    vaishu

Thank you very much, Vaishu for the measurement and also for the difference in bleached and unbleached all purpose flour! I am going to try it!

    Ladies,

All purpose flour whether bleached or unbleached is always maida. Whole wheat flour is specified on the packets and is just that.
Bleaching is just a process that is used after the refining process to make the flour look more presentable. Of course there are a few minor differences in the product itself as the bleaching process alters a few cell structures in the flour and so the end product will be different.
    Hope this helps.

Dear Friends, Thanks for the info. We r still getting Sona Masoori rice in Kuwait. I hope it will continue only till stocks last. There was also a news saying that export of onions is also banned. Till now everything is available. Lets wait and see. I hope the associations here will interfere and take up the matter with our Indian Govt.

    Hi Ladies,
We are using the Wheat flour brand name- Golden Temple. Now with all these price hike and ban from INdia, i am thinking of buying wheat from costco or otehr shops like Wallmart, kroger. Could you please let me know the brand name that I can lok for. Previously once i tried the wheat from costco (not sure now about the brand), but it didnt taste as like our wheat (Golden temple) so again switched back. .
Ladies. .please suggest me where i can get wheat flour from any of the stores like costco or wallmart here..

    Thanks,
    Priya

    hi ladies,

I had been using PRIYA idli rice so far to make idlis. As the rice is banned, I'm thinking of using parboiled rice from WM or Sam's

    Any thoughts? Experiences?

    Imaya,
Don't use the parboiled rice sold in the American stores. The idlis will be flat if you make from them.
You can make idlis with long grain rice also, as suggested by Vandhana in this thread by roasting the rice and proceed as you do normally.

    Hi Prishen,

I think we will not have any problems with Golden Temple flour because it comes from Canada.

    Thanks Sriniketen,

You stopped me from buying at the right time. Will try roasting the rice and soaking soon.

Anyway, though we get flour (Golden temple, swad etc., )from Canada I presume the prices would hike up.
