why should a lady wear something that should not be a sore to other's eyes? How does she know it is causing eyesore to others or not?

I have been looking out for nighty clad women in NCR...not many. Haven't seen one in since this thread was started. Most wear Salwar Kameez .....even the maids wear salwar kameez or sarees.

I did see a lot when we were in the south western part of the country.

I can give you an explanation.

North India is never humid- even if it is, then during the october heat or during the unseasonal rainy times.

Down south, humidity is as common as seeing a cat in Aoshima lsland, so skin-fit type dresses doesn't help. The unofficial dhoti is the lungi and for the saree, the nighty.

By looking at herself in the mirror first !!! :) Jokes Apart..
Everyone knows their body structure and pretty much know what would suit them and what would not. So as long as they can carry whatever they wear gracefully they will not be a sore to other's eyes.. Doesn't matter whether it is a nightie or a bikini..

Cotton kurta and pyjamas do not cling to the body and is definitely better to wear on humid days.
I guess the issue is not even wearing the nightie.. but the condition the nightie is worn It is definitely disgusting to note it being torn under the arms.. or wet from household chores. Some women think..it is Ok to wear a nightie however it is.. since it is a kind of 'rough' use at home.. And covering with a towel to cover the flipped hooks.. definitely adds to the disgust.

2 piece kurta-pyjama dress should cost more than 1 piece nighty?

The women who wear worn out nighties in public are very likely to wear worn out ,worked in sarees or Salwar Kurtas too........they just don't care much about what they wear.....that is their style or compulsion because of lack of time for themselves.
