New born baby in cot

    Thanks Karthikas. We are also planning to do soemthing like that. I may not be able to use thottil after 6 months because it will be winter time here.

    I am assuming your question relates to whether baby should sleep in the cot / thottil at night. Babies must always be kept near you for as long as possible when sleeping. Newborn babies need the warmth and comfort of the mother's proximity because that it what she experienced when she was in your womb. Numerous studies have proven that babies who "co-sleep" with mother turn out to be calmer, more confident and well assured.

    Cosleeping done the right way also helps you, the mother. The flow of "mothering hormones" when your baby is near you benefits you in ways which researchers are only beginning to understand now. The most evident of the benefits of these hormones is on ease of flow of breastmilk through the glands. When your baby is close to you on your bed you need to spend no effort to breastfeed your baby. If your baby is on a separate cot or thottil you may feel lazy or tired to get up and feed.
