Need advice on music basics

Dear Friends

I really proud to be an Indian. India is unique because of its culture. Most auspicious thing is our traditional music and dance. In my free time i take bhajan classes for kids.. I like to teach them the basics of carnatic music.. I have learnt till Varnam and left class 3 years back... If i want to teach them i know, i should be well versed. Please friends advise me in what way i should improve my music. What should i practice?
