Re: Dos and donts during Navratri

    Hi all,

This is an interesting thread, learnt a lot here. Another reason ( I am just guessing here) why no stitching is allowed could be cos, the woman might prick her finger and shed blood.

My doubt is- if we start the practice of keeping kumbham and kolu, should we do it every year? I want to set kumbham like my mom does. But it may not be convenient in all years since I am the only one at home to offer pooja, light vilakku. Please advise.

    thanks. regards
    Vidya

Yes, Vidhya, that is what, heard from my co-sis., where her mom has been doing a lonnnng time keeping kalasam. She also keeps paruppu thengai(with pottukadalai) in the golu which I am hearing for the first time from her though, have never seen doing this in my family!!

Some one has posted golu links and if you see those pictures, will get some ideas of making park etc.

Simply, if you have thick paper sheet or thermocoal, put it on the floor; take soil from outside or if you dont want to mess up, spread some grass(real or artificial) wherever you want.

You can even dip sago in green rangoli with little water and put it closer on the ground, will look somewhat called grass. I read from chennaionline making park using dry coconut and can use that too. For making swing, slide, seesaw, can make with matchstick or thin sheet like the wrapper of the book. You can even do with paper chart for making bench with 2 or 3 folds, will stay. The color stones are available in al dollar stores and even the shells; you can use them in corner of the park or anywhere in the golu steps either in the corner or in between the idols etc.

    Many more like this..

    Rgds.

Where is the Golu links? In this same thread? I could not find it. Can you please post it once again for easy access. Thanks a ton.

We just arranged the padi (5 padis). I live in CA, USA and so last year we had made padis using wood from Home Depot. So we had assemble it. Since today is weekend it was possible. We both work and so it becomes hard for us to do on a weekday.

I just joined this forum and it is great to be in touch with indusladies.
