My Wish for you Dearest Daughter

When I saw my daughter walking by herself in the park refusing to be supported by her father, a myriad of feelings and emotions dawned upon me. I was happy and little sad at the same time. Happy to see her grow, achieve her milestones on time then why sad, I thought. Then as I pondered over it ,realized that she was growing into an independent individual who would not need my support 24x7 anymore , to hold on to her, to help her stand, or to walk, would she run behind me calling ‘amma,amma’ to get attention as she does now, slowly she will start eating on her own and what not, the list is endless. Was I feeling jealous, or where they anxiety pangs or some hormonal clash with in me, still have to figure out. Motherhood has made me quite emotional and I guess heart rules over head when it comes to her. That’s when I wrote the below poem and this is for you, my precious princess.

As I see you grow,
With every step, every day
I wonder how
The time seems to fly, have no words to say.

Today in the park, I saw you walk
With small baby steps, all by yourself
Your dad smiling at your baby talk
And I stood alone, gazing at you, all by myself.

My thoughts running wild
Its all about you, my darling child
You need no hand to hold on to now
Was wondering, wasn’t it too quick somehow?

My little bird all set to fly,
Into the world of deep blue sky
I wish her all the good in life
With high and lows, she should learn
And a name for herself, she should earn
I wish she treats her life right
And make future for herself bright

My baby as I see you grow
My eyes fill up with tears
You make me PROUD everyday
And I rest all my fears.

Having fathered a daughter I can appreciate your feelings. When you see your angel growing up you are happy and proud on the one hand. And also there is a tinge of sadness on the other. At every stage you remind yourself that she is one stage closer to leaving the nest.

Well I have been through all that,Sheeba.

The poem is simple and sweet. I loved it.
