8 years back, on this same fateful day it happened. It was 7 in the evening, I had stepped out from office for a light snack, when I came back the receptionist told me I missed a call from my sister ( that was the era when not many of us had cell phones ). I immediately called back home to find out that my father had a massive brain haemmorage and he was in a coma and in the hospital - his pulse was stable and he was expected to be moved to a bigger hospital once his reports came. I felt a tight knot in my stomach. I was then staying in a different city for work. I could manage to get a flight the next morning. I spoke to my mother early morning the next day before starting and everything looked stable, she was also fine and sounded very positive, but god had decided otherwise. In the next one hour he suddenly developed fever and his pulse started to go down and all the doctors in that big hospital could not save him... even for me to have a last glimpse of him before he was gone... when I reached there found him lying lifeless on the hospital bed.

My father was an integral part of our family and had played an important role in all our lives. He was always there to give us directions - while at school, college or even when we moved out to be our own individual selves. He never differentatiated us as girls and always encouraged on being independent and standing on our own. He was so simple and very realistic with his expectations. He had his own set of rules for life, but never rushed to temples or beleived in god. He would always help people around him in his own small ways and was known as a very helpful person...and thats probably the reason why his end was so quick and painless...

Somewhere I had read these lines which feel so much closer to my heart...

    No farewell words were spoken,
    No time to say good-bye.
You were gone before I knew it,
    And only God knows why.

If tears could build a stairway,
    and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven
and bring you home again .....
My dear father ... how I miss you.

Through the years you've always been there,
with love between us beyond compare.
You gave directions and showed me the way,
Making me the person I am today....

and I know where ever he is, he would shower his blessings on us.

    Rani

    Dear Ranise,
Your words speak volumes. I can feel the impact your father's demise in your narration.
Father teaches his children to be self-disciplined, industrious, polite, trustworthy, and respectful of authority.I think your father was a man with a great personality and great thoughts, taught you discipline and importance of life.As you say he would guide you from above.
    with love

    MY DEAR

you brought tears in my eyes....!!!!!!!!!!!

i think of my loving father too whenever i happen to read pain stricken words as yours...

i miss my father ssssssssssssssssssssssssooooooooooooooooooo much.....and as days go by...................i feel i should have enjoyed every moment i had with him...still i talk to him while praying daily standing in front of his photo....and i feel he is still around me to take care of me and my family...with lots of love and affection.

i pray to him daily that i should be born as his daughter again in my next birth...

he was such a lovely person and i feel god had blessed me and my brother to have such a wonderful person as our father this birth...

i can never console you with any sort of comforting words because i know that loss of a loving father can never be compensated with anything else in the world...

do think of your father when you are happy and when you feel you need some comfort...he will be near you in an invisible form i am sure.

    take care dear

    Dear Rani,

Your poignant post touched my heart and made me recall so many memories of my dear father... thyhim...e wonderful times we had together, the wise words imparted b

The greatest wealth he bequeathed to us, his children, was to give us a good education...

Like you wrote, I too miss him so much, but take courage from the fact that he is always beside me, holding my hand and guiding me in times of need...

    Take care,

    Love
    Padma
