I think if you want to intensify the chicken flavor you should fry the chicken longer until there is some browned chicken juices in the bottom of the pan...at least that is how we approach in American cooking. Then continue and when you add the water the chicken flavor is released as the brown parts melt.
Anyone have idea how to prepare the brijal curry that Muslims serve with Biriyani? I always like that combination but not sure of the method to prepare it.
