Mumbai Metro and Mumbai Monorail

Mumbai is gearing up to improve the traffic congestion on the roads too. Mumbai Metro work is in progress and now Monorail route in the city is being planned for making commuting easy for Mumbaikars.

First Monorail

The first airconditioned Monorail is being planned to run at a speed of 32 kms per house from <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1:Street><st1:address>Jacob Circle</st1:address></st1:Street> to Chembur Station via Wadala. It will cover 11 stations stretched within 12 kms from <st1:Street><st1:address>Jacob Circle</st1:address></st1:Street> to Wadala in 25 minutes and 8.2 kms from Wadala to Chembur will be covered in 19 mins. In all the distance will be covered in 44 minutes.

Initially the train will run every 4.5 minutes and later it will be reduced to 3 mins.

Each train will have 4 coaches with 30% seating and 70% standing capacity.

Each coach can carry 150 passengers

Each monorail thus will have the capacity of carrying passenger loads of 8 to 10 buses plying on the road along the same route.

Navi Mumbai – Skywalks

When her twin sister is enjoying modifications in traffic, rails with additional skywalks, why should she be left behind!

Navi Mumbai is looking for 5 skywalks at the prime locations of the city for the pedestrians at a cost of Rs. 4 crore each. It has been proposed to construct skywalks at accident prone areas. The first one is proposed to come up at D. Y Patil Sports Stadium at Nerul, second one is planned near Kopar Khairane railway station connecting DAKC, third one is planned near Ghansoli railway station, the fourth one is planned near Airoli Station and the last one near Vashi Village directly connecting it to the residential node of Sector 6.

There will be 4 elevators, 2 on each side. It will have solar panels to save electricity.

Luckily, the plan is still on and the work will commence once Thane- Nerul line is inaugurated by the end of December 2008.
