Moving to Houston from INDIA,need suggestions!!

    Hi All,

    I got recently married in DEC'14 and am moving to houston from india. To say,I have never been to US before. It will be very helpful if i can get a guidance in :

    Renting an appartment(Safety is my husband's first priority)

    luggage packing tips (Since we are starting a new nest there)

    How and where to plan my furniture ,cookery etc..

    Hi,

    Renting an apartment can be easy if you husband already has colleagues in houston. Best to rent an apartment close to them as commuting is easy. Besides u will have company which is very essential here in US. In case you dont already know anybody u can look up areas close to your husband's workplace or yours, if you will be working. Sugarland is a area with maximum Desis.

    Luggage - I would recommend you carry more summer clothes as houston can be very humid. In terms of kitchen items, carry a cooker, roti making belan and patla, all authentic masalas that you are used to cooking with . You get everything here but what we miss is the taste we are used to. So you may as well get those spices from india if you have the chance to.

    Crokery and furniture is something you can gather once you are here and settled.
    Ikea, walmart are a few good options for furniture and other sundry items.

    Get all traditional things :) Get cooker,chakla belan, lemon sqeezer.
    Take an apartment near to office.
    Furniture you can buy second hand in craiglist or you can visit IKEA store here.
