I think I would give it back. Then, I hope that the news would go viral and someone would start a GoFundMe to reward that honesty on my part. Not a million, but the gofundme would at least get me $125K : )
50 years ago, I might have kept it. NOW I am certainly giving it back -- if whoever owns it cannot be identified, to a few charities that I like to fund. And by the way, lottery winnings are taxable in USA (unlike a few other countries) and giving money away to charities is one easy way to get rid of it and not pay taxes.
That's a great gesture on the part of the shop owner. If I were in such a situation I would have given it to the customer too else sleep would evade me.But if I were the customer and if I was handed over the ticket I would certainly part some amount with the shop owner.
