A very nice idea. Konkani and Marathi dishes are a little less known than say the dosa idli of south and the Punjabi cuisine. Shall look forward to the recipes:)

    Hi padma ,
here is the recipe for Goda masala:

    Goda masala

    1/2 cup dry coconut
    1/4 cup white sesame seeds
    1/4 cup black sesame seeds
    2 tbsp jeera
    2 tsp Kala Jeera
    1 tsp hing
1 stick of cinnamon ( dal chini)
    2 cloves
    1 black cardamom
    2 dry red chilies
1/2 tsp turmeric powder & salt to taste

    Method
Roast all the ingredients except coconut & coriander seeds with a little amount(1/2 tsp) of oil till nice aroma comes out.
Dry Roast coconut till golden brown
Dry roast coriander seeds separately .
Now grind all these items and 1 tsp raw (unroasted) jeera and salt(to taste) together.

    Dear Padma,

Years and years back, I got this recipe for Goda Masala from a friend who lives in Canada. This is supposed to be the authentic recipe. I have no idea though. Try it in a small amount and see:)

    Goda Masala:

    4 cups of Coriander seeds
    2 Tspns cloves
4-5 Cinnamon sticks (half inch to one inch long)
    3 Tspns Cummin seeds
    3 Tspns Caraway seeds
    1/2 cup Sesame seeds
    1/2 cup dessicated Coconut
    6-7 Bay leaves
    6-7 Daggad phool (?!)
    Aesofoetida (Hing) according to taste

Roast the above ingredients dry and powder.

Mind you, I don't know if this is really the original goda masala. Also, I jotted it down in a hurry. May be others here who know can help you out better. As for the daggad phool, I guess it is mace.
    Best of luck:)

    L, Kamla

PS: Ha ha Vandhana...Great minds think alike and at the same time:)) Posted and noted that you have posted your version too. Now we have a choice of Goda masalas!!

Note: Daggad phool is not mace, my guess was wrong. Seems it is buds from the cinnamon plant.
