Little Kirans : Are our children safe in respected schools?

[FONT=&quot]This is a true story. Kiran (name changed) went to one of the famous schools that exist in and are famous in the vicinity. The mother and father of Kiran were very happy. However, their happiness was short lived. Often 13 year old Kiran would not show any inclination to go to the school. Firstly, the parents thought that this is due to changing hormones at this age. When the situation became bad, they were forced to shout and send Kiran to school.[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot] Finally, one morning during the exam tests, Kiran absolutely refused to go to the school. Kiran’s mother was advised by her counsellor friend to visit and seek some answers. After a few sessions of counselling, they were shocked to know that a very senior teacher at the convent catholic school was abusing Kiran. The parents thought that by putting their child in a convent catholic school, they would be able to impart discipline. However, the incident brought to the fore that some schools may have such predators in robes.[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]This incident happened five years back. Why am I highlighting it today? As you know the catholic church is seeing a huge child abuse racket. Men , aged 50 or 60 or more have been accused of molesting young children in schools, churches and other places. The usually excited newspapers of Chennai have nothing to report over this grave matter. I had many questions in mind:[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]In how many nations have such cases occurred, in schools or places or shelter?[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Are there cases of such child abuse in India?[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]If they have occurred, then what action was taken?[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Finally, are children safe in such hostels and schools where the people claim to abstain from a very natural human urge of copulation but MAY abuse children to overcome their urges?[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]New Delhi: A Catholic priest charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Minnesota is working in the office of the bishop of Ooty. On Monday,he denied the allegation and said he has no plans to return to the US to face the courts.[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]It is a false accusation against me.I do not know that girl at all, said Rev Joseph Palanivel Jeyapaul,who allegedly threatened to kill the girls family,and forced her to perform oral sex on him in 2004,at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Greenbush,Minnesota,where he worked.

Dear Geetha...
the only way to protect our kids is by educating them of the unexpected abuse which they are likely to face. I have a 12 yr old son who I have explained that no man or woman can touch your private parts or make you touch theirs. If ever such a thing happens he should first come and tell us and there is no shame in it and NEVER to hide any incident of abuse verbal or physical...
Its really sad that we as parents trust the schools and institutes to protect our child and the predator lies in there!!

Thanks Kelly for letting us know the conversation between you and your little loved son! It is very important on our part to communicate with children. At the same time schools must also observe some regulations so that such persons are found out and not recruited by other schools.
