Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley`s School of Public Health detected lead, cadmium, chromium, aluminum and five other metals in lipsticks, some of which were found at levels that could raise potential health concerns.

They tested 32 different lipsticks and lip glosses commonly found in drugstores and department stores.

Prior studies also have found metals in cosmetics, but the UC Berkeley researchers estimated risk by analyzing the concentration of the metals detected and consumers` potential daily intake of the metals, and then comparing this intake with existing health guidelines.

"Just finding these metals isn`t the issue; it`s the levels that matter," study principal investigator S. Katharine Hammond, professor of environmental health sciences said.

"Some of the toxic metals are occurring at levels that could possibly have an effect in the long term," Hammond said.

Ladies need to be careful. Don't apply too much or on regular basis.
Also, young children, who sometimes play with makeup and apply a lot of lipstick. It affects their nervous system in long run.

Re: Lipsticks contains with toxic metals

Those who slather on the lip color and reapply it repeatedly could have serious health issues because of presence of toxic metals.

    Daily intake?
are we eating lipsticks for lunch?:bonk
Just another scare tactic going around the net..:rant
Our drinking water contains more lead than a lipstick.. human body naturally contains lead...And is also capable of excreting lead if the concentration increases....
You will have to eat 25 lipsticks a day to raise the body's lead content in a level that will cause danger...
Do some research before posting these things that do daily rounds in the net and FB....
I am sure nobody will die from applying lipstick but you will from smoking and alcohol...

    Lewd comment?:bonk
Do you know the meaning of the word Lewd?
    Look it up!!!!!
I read the complete article and has read complete articles of dermatologists and cosmetic scientists before posting my comment. What I said is a scientific fact, not hearsay.
All these metals are present in water, food and nobody, nobody is going to die or have any toxicity from using a lipstick.
Cheap lipsticks that you buy on the roadside may cause skin issues, but again that is your choice..
I still stick to my comment. You go do some research.
