    Hi Everybody,
I'm here to get some information about the knee replacement surgery for my mother.
My mom got the attack of rheumatoid arthritis 3yrs. back. As a result, she was not able to move any part of her body because of the attack. She was prescribed steroids, though very harmful, to get her out of the bed. Now, she is able to do her routine work very slowly. She is on allopathy medicines to control her RA and also she takes ayurvedic medicines to gain weight as she became very thin after the atack . Her diet is full of restrictions. The worst part of this attack is that it damaged her left knee, totally. As a result, that leg is like useless for her. She went to many RA specialists, orthopedic specialized in knee replacement, homeopath, ayurvedic doctors.
Some orthopedic doctors tells her to go for the knee replacement surgery while others say that the surgery is not going to help and will give her more problems.
If anyone has come across a situation like this or familiar with some other treatment for the damaged knee, please do suggest me. I would greatly appreciate this.
    Thanks.
    Richa

    Hello Ladies,

My mother had one knee replacement two years ago and she feels absolutely great. In fact, her new knee is 100% better than her other knee. My mother was in hospital for just a week and the recovery period after the operation took some 4-6 weeks. She only used the crutch for some 3 weeks and then started to walk without any aid. She can now walk briskly, carry on with her normal chores without any pain. She can sit, stand and lay down as normal. She often says "I dont even feel that I have had the op". Knee replacements surgeries are very successful and the surgeons here in London told my mother that a knee replacement will remain good for some 10-15 years. So go for it and don't delay.

    Good luck

    Hi Richa,

I live in UK and my mother had her knee surgery here but my bua ji (father's sister) had exactly the same surgery in India (in Amritsar) and she too is feeling great. In fact she's sorry that she did not get the surgery earlier. I note that you are in USA. why don't you (if it is feasible) get your mum to come down to you for the surgery? I am sure USA would be very apt - this is, of course, if it suits you financially and otherwise.

    All the best.

    Hello Reenae,
Thanks again. I live in chicago but my mother lives in India. She could, if she wants, come here for the surgery. But she is so scared of the surgery, that the first thing is to make her ready for tht. She has rheumatoid arthritis and some surgeons say that the surgery might be unsuccessful. So, we are, kind of, in dilemma. Many says my mother should go for the surgery. So, could you please tell me why your mother or your buaji got the knee damaged?

    Thanks,
    Richa

    HI,
My MIL is also suffering from very bad arthritis. She is in pain all the time. Her legs and hands are swollen. She will not be able to sit in the plane for 16hrs to fly back to India. So we were thinking of getting her treated in USA (bay area). Do you know any good doctor here. And how much does the knee surgery cost roughly.

We tried homeopathy but it didn't help her. Infact she started developing some allergy all over the body so she stopped taking it.
