    Could you let us know when is karthigai this year? Also, is Karthigai falling on the same day as grahanam (eclipse)?

    hi..thanks..that is what calendar says as well. I googled and looks like eclipse is on the 10th. But someone mentioned it falls on the same day as karthigai.

    Hi Vanisri,
    Bharani deepam is on 8 th & sarvalaya deepam is on 10th. chandra grahnam tarts on the same day at 6.15 PM.
    In the first week i will write to you when to light deepam. I think it is between 5.30 7 6 PM.

    Thanks so much for this explanation Chitra. Loved the photographs. Marvel at the perfectly symmetrical, neat kolam. Somehow I always thought Kartigai lamps were lit to pray for the well being of brothers. Now I know better. :-D

    Sats, that is specially believed in Kerala side, I think!!
    Till I got married, I never heard about the fact that Kartigai lamps were lit to pray for the well being of brothers.
    But once I entered a PGT household, I saw that this was practised!!
