KARNATAKA RAJYOTSAVA: About Sannati & Hubli & Bijapur

Hi my dear friends,

Today I would like to write about my native place, My ILs place and our Kuladevata (Home Goddess)..

SORRY Its a very LONG POST... Read it in Leisure... I couldn't restrict anything...:bonk

HUBLI:

Yes, I am from Hubli.

Before the city formed, there were many flowers and creepers (hoo-balli) which in time became as hubballi and to all other as HUbli.

Though its my native, most of my childhood and after I have spent in Bangalore. But still HUBLI is my favorate place to settle down!!!
I always remember its beauty of being a city as well as a village place, if you want to live in that. I mean you get nice fresh veggies (not the farm one-but all Naati/jawari) which are very good for health.. And the bus facility here is too good be it local buses or the tourist buses to other towns, both public and private. There is also an airport, which has helped a lot to improve the city as IT hub. I heard Govt is thinking to divert some IT companies to Hubli.

But never I forget to mention about Durgad Bail!!! Its the heart of the city and the shopping ever ends here!!1 Its always busy and crowded, with good shops around, with lot of variety, and the ULTIMATE is the chat shops in the center!!! U name it, u will get that chat in these road-side chat shops. I just love the Tomato GIRMIT which we used to eat whenever we visit Hubli. It was just Rs.10 per plate then. I dont know whats the value now. If someone knows plz update me... and the paani poori, Dabeli, Tatte idli, benne dosa, dahi puri, etc, etc, (I dont remember all)..Whenever we visit, we never used to eat at home for 1 full day but eat every item available in these shops!!

And there is Unakal lake which is being improved for tourism sake (I heard from friends).. Its nice picnic spot... There are also Sai baba temple, ISKCON, and many famous temples. There are also malls like big bazaar, Vishals, etc.

BIJAPUR:

Yeah, I am married to a BJP guy. My ILs stay here. Its a good place too, this is a historic place where the Mughals ruled. One of the known king was Adilshahi and he built GOL GUMBAZ for his wife... Its sooo beautiful even now and the architecture is really out of this world... Everytime we visit BJP, we visit this monument. There are several other monuments such as bara kaman, Ibrahim Roza, Jod gumbaz, Taz Baaudi, etc.
There is also a Shiva temple which has the 85 feet Lord shiva statue which is visible from any nuke and corner of the city. Its Beautiful and worth visiting.

It is world famous because of its history. The language here is a little different than in Hubli, and the differance goes on increasing as you go till Gulbarga.

Bijapur is famous for its Jowar roti and hindi palle (ummmm) and many other food varieties. My fav is Jowar roti, Shaavi palle bhaji, ennegai palle, kaal palle.

We get nice bajjis here and Chunmari susla, for which all the shops and road side dabbawalas shops will be rush always. Its really yummy , And yeah, the veggies and fruits here are the tastiest in the whole Karnataka, as everything here is jawari ;-)... The Grapes grown here are marketed all over the world, and are very very sweet.

The heart of the city is always filled with people shopping, as the name says its "Lal Bahaddur Shastry market". U will get all u need for a home here. They are so cheap, and a good variety too, U name it, u will get it there. During Ramzan, there will be special market where we get nice variety.

SANNATI:

This is a beautiful place located in the banks of River Bhima. Chandrala Parameshwari Temple, our Kuldevata, and has a beautiful Goddess Lakshmi, who has settled here because of Sethu Raja who had an evil eye on Beautiful Chandraala. Here is the story:
king called Rajasena had a daughter Chandrala. The king began searching for a groom for his beloved daughter and organised a ‘Swayamvara' for this purpose. The princes had to see the reflection of an metal pillar in the water and bring it down to win the hand of the princess. No prince was willing to take up such a challenging task and the king was in despair.

Some days later, a goddess appeared in his dreams and told him that the one who will wed his daughter will come to the town garden the next day. The next day, Narayana Muni, a handsome young man came to the town and was given a grand welcome by the king who requested him to take up the task and marry his daughter. Though he initially declined, he later agreed.

The couple got married and were living on the banks of the Bheema river when the eyes of an evil king fell on the beautiful Chandrala. Trying to escape from the clutches of the king, Chandrala vowed to do penance for 40 days. She then went to the Someshwara temple and sought sanctuary from the evil designs of the king.
Meanwhile, Narayana Muni, seeing that his wife was missing and guessing that the king must be behind her disappearance, vowed to set things right. He went to the Hingula Peeth near Kashmir and prayed to Goddess Hingulambake.

The Goddess promised to help him out on one condition: that he should walk in front of her, showing her the way but should not turn back and look at her until he reaches his town. Narayana Muni agreed. The clanking of the Goddess' anklets was his only clue to whether she was following him. But at the banks of the River Bheema, the twittering of the birds and the swishing of the river drowned the anklet sound and he inadvertently turned round. Immediately, the Goddess became a stone and told him that she would stay there. She also gave him a coconut telling him that there were bees inside it and he should take it to the evil king. When the coconut was broken at the king's palace, several thousands of bees came out of it and attacked the king who jumped into the river and drowned.
Even today, there is a ‘Seethuraja Maduvu' near the river. Chandrala became one with the God even before she could complete her penance. In memory of this legend, every year, the Chandrala Parameshwari Devi Mahotsav is held during the Navaratri festival. The temple has a history of nearly 800 years and was renovated in 1985.

Wonderful narrative information about three places ananya
I have been to Hubli many time as some of my cousins are there.. and durgada bailu too..

Great post good that you didnt edit any part...
My sister once was staying in Hubli and I have been to the city many times and I agree with you its very good city to settle in...
By the way my father n DH are from Bijapur..I love Sajje rotti with Badanikay Yennegayi....

Story About Sannati is very interesting...Where exactly does it come?

@AnanyaAjay : Very nice article esp bijapur. My Mom is from bijapur. We spent most of our summer holidays in Bijapur and enjoyed a horse cart ride to golgumbaz.An its jowar roti and hindipalle makes a yummy food... u made me nostalgic............

I am too from HUBLI
Somehow I missed reading this post till today
All these three places are close to my heart!!!!!!!!
1.HUBLI...my birth place,schooling,graduation..my marriage,my children are too born here still my parents live here and I visit every year for about 15days.Durgadbail visit is must during my stay here.Few items must come along with me to dubai from durgadbail only.Its tradition now
2.Bijapur..my husband is near by town bagalkot once belonged to dist bijapur but now independent dist.I had been to bijapur four times.Visited near by places like Toravi narsimha temple etc.Golgumbaz a must visit in Karnataka.I have pictures of my children in cart ride on bijapur roads
3.Sannati:I had been once here and still my memories are so fresh.Bhima river is really beautifull and she is never calm.Goddess Chandrala parameswari Temple is beautiful and very peacefull.I think I had visited after its renovation only.But yet improvements to happen in Sannati village.Yes,this temple has great history!!!

You have nicely covered all the info about place,cusine etc..Great job!
