Janmashtami ki Dhoom - Poem in Hindi

गोपियों की मस्ती में सज रही है दही हंडियाँ

आओ यारों हम मनाए कृष्ण की जन्माष्टमी

बारिश की बूँदों के बीच मस्त है ये गोपियाँ

प्यारे कान्हा देख रहा है गोपियों की मस्तियां

दोस्तों की टोली बनकर घूम रहें है गली गलियाँ

मन में है जोश, गोपियों में चले थोडे हंडियाँ

बच्चे बूढ़े नाचते हैं उनके मन में है उत्साह

ये खुशी की सदा रहे पल ये है सबकी मन में चाह

एक एक कर मिलती है हाथ जुड़ जाती मुट्टी इन गोपियाँ

तालमेल से चढ़ जाते हैं तोड़ते है हंडियाँ

लडकियां भी कुछ कम नहीं है चलती हैं ये साथ साथ

गोपियों को देतें है टक्कर तोड़ते है सब हंडियाँ

इस उत्साह को भंग करती है नेताएं व्यापारियां

पैसों की लालच दिलाकर रोक देते है मस्तियां

आओ गोपी धूम मचाओ कर लो तुम रे मस्तियां

दृष्ट लोगों से दूर रहके तोड़ दो उनकी हंडियाँ




Rough English translation

The Gopis have assembled and are in playful mood
Let us forget our worries and celebrate Janmashtami
Amidst rain drops watch the Gopis dance with joy
Little Krishna is watching them and is ready to join them
The Gopis are roaming with joy in every nook and corner
Old or young, their hearts are filled with joy
May this unity and smile in their faces lost for ever, O’Lord
They join together and dance like brothers and sisters
Their hearts connect as they form pyramids to break the dahi handi
Girls are not far behind, they too compete with boys
Their innocence and joy is destroyed by politicians and businessmen
They commercialize their joy and induce them with greed for prize money
All the Gopis Unite and teach them a lesson
Do not succumb to greed and break these pots of lust.
