Call the school directly and get the information from them. Don’t go by hearsay.

this was my concern, now vs december.. thanks for relieving me of stress .. i know meeting cousins and grandparents is also an experience , they may not get always. And for us 1st gen indians, it is always going to be hard, with urge to meet parents + our own kids + jobs/budgets. Ultimately emotions take over..though many in india do not understand. they think we have lot of money to make frequent trips for 4.

If so, call them and enquire about it or you can go to the school's office and explore more. They will guide you.

The district office and school office open a few days, typically two weeks, before school starts for students. The district website will have these dates.

When you call to inquire about missing school, be prepared for a lecture on the drawbacks of this idea. Ignore it and politely ask for what paperwork you need to fill, whom to contact etc. Ask what if you are on vacation when the new-school-year packet comes home.

Occasionally, going to the school in person yields a better response.
