Is blood really thicker than water?

    Many times in my life I have come across various situations and incidents which makes me seriously wonder whether the phrase "Blood is thicker than water" is really true. Do really our relations come forward whole heartedly when it comes to dealing with problems be it health or wealth or anything critical. I feel it is always the friends who come forward to help us. They are not blood related to us, but still they are the ones who stand by us, support us, comfort us, truly care for us, at least it applies to me. When a relation helps us, there is a selfishness behind it. If I do something for her now, he/she will later help me in my crisis. But in friendship there is a selflessness. It is pure affection and love. That is why we say A friend in need is a friend indeed right. Friends (here I mean true friends) do not talk behind our back, do not pass negative comments, love us whatever we do. No caste/religion/country/sex/wealth barrier exists. In any other relation there is a commitment, expectation. But in friendship, even miles apart does not matter. Is'nt that the bond connecting all of us in IL? Anyway, this is my opinion and opinions do differ. So please do share your opinions...

    Really depends for some people its friends, for some people its blood, I have seen some siblings, brothers and sisters they are very free and behave like friends, but such cases are very rare , most most of people have a very silent relation with siblings and only friends know their secrets. But now majority is friends who help whenever needed without expectations, but some bad friends also are there and we need to be careful from them.

    very well said...its is rare to find relations so close as friends...but friends are the ones who support us in case of any trouble...thanks for dropping by :)

    It is true Iswarya. Only true friends is greater than our blood relations. My husband has such a true friend.

    There is always an underlying expectation within blood relationships which is absent among true friends.

    I dont know whether blood is thicker or vice versa...I have had my share of experience relatives who are very very reliable and dependable and friends who have betrayed. So I guess...It depends on individual personalities:)
