Iron and calcium tablets after delivery

    Dear friends,
    Some of my friends say we've to continue iron and calcium tablets after delivery also, some say that only till we breast feed the babies, we need it, have anyone taken the iron and calcium tablets after delivery?

    Hi,

    Normally the doctor recommends to have iron and calcium tablets, for three months after delivery.

    There is no harm in taking these tablets. Since, generally after delivery we would be anemic and have calicum deficiency, its better to take this. If you dont want to take tablets, then you can have food rich in iron and calcium.

    Anyways follow your gynaec's advice.

    I had stopped these tablets after delivery. But around 5 years later, I started having aches n pains, weakness etc so started again with the iron tablets. The doc also prescribed some multi vitamins. Till date, I continue to take my iron and multi vitamin tablets.

    Always ask your doc if you need to continue.

    Hi vidya

    i have been taking iron supplements after my delivery ,, it have been 6 months...it id ok to contnue as a daily basis unless u have other health issues... you may consult ur doctor if u r worried...
    i usually take 1-2 capsules daily(even before i conceived)

    Hi Vidya,

    My gynec asked me to take both iron and calcium tablets for 6 months after delivery. I stopped after that.

    Dear Friends,

    Thank you Janani, kylie, ranjit jeyanthi, karanu, sudha and rose for your prompt reply. it's good to check with doctor before taking any medicine, but as janani and others said, our body will be anemic after the delivery and we should regain our strength, so i too feel such tablets are needed atleast as long as we breast feed the baby.
