Please tell what are Indian neighborhoods in Florida Where can I get saree fall stitched? Where can I buy jalabis? Where can I buy diyas for diwali?
@SuiDhaaga, There are large indian communities in florida. One way to check is the indian associations, temples etc. From my knowledge Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville are big and while Miami/Fort-lauderdale communities are spread out, there are indian communities there. Pay a visit before deciding. If you are looking for a place to move with your dad, look for indian elderly living communities A quick google search brought me these results: https://www.nalandaestates.com/#:~:text=Nalanda Estates is the premier, site will contain 83 homes. Lets say you are a Gujrathi ( I don't know, name suidhaaga sounds gujrathi to me and I know Thoughtful sounds like a south indian name ), search for such communities in google. I found this: Gujarati Society of Central Florida Look for how active they are, recent activities, the number of families etc. You can email and ask questions which are in your mind, to help you decision making. Good luck!
Okay last post on this. Patel Brothers are a famous chain in USA where they should have jalebis, diyas for diwali. There should be some indian saree store near it if you search for the address. My search for Patel brothers in florida yielded 4 results: 1. Orlando 2. Tampa 3. Jacksonville 4. Sunrise ( which is close to fort-lauderdale ) Locations
Thank you very much for this reply God-Willing I should be able to move with my Dad (he is facing more health issues now) These are great resources!
I have lived in Tampa, and a year ago, I moved to Orlando from Michigan. The Indian community is smaller here compared to Dallas, or the Detroit area. In the Orlando area, there is a shop named Rangoli Sweets in Winter Springs and they make and sell sweets wholesale as well as retail. The Indian community in Orlando resides in areas like Oviedo, Lake Mary, Sanford, Dr. Phillips, and Lake Nona. In Tampa, the Wesley Chapel and New Tampa areas are nice. If you are planning to move in with your father, make all the doctor's appointments early. Compared to Detroit, there is a long wait to see specialists. I had acid reflux and waited 2 months to see a gastroenterologist, and then several more months for an endoscopy. It may be different for others, but it's advisable to check before you move.
