Hi Sonya,

to start with, welcome to Riyadh. Answers to your questions depend on your area of residence. In any case for electronic appliance you should try Extra (Old Airport road) or Electro. As far as renting movies is concerned there are a few outlets in Haara where you might get some movies but I am not sure if they rent or sell. VCDs are sold for around 10SAR and DVDs could be 15 or 20 SAR.

Thank you so much for the tips. We live near Faisalia Tower in downtown Riyadh. We have visited Hara and Batha a few times. Will look for DVDs the next time we go there. Will also try Extra and Electro for appliances.

Any thoughts on where to find the less-commonly used spices - like amchur (dried mango powder), jaiphal (nutmeg), etc. ?

Well Geeta, thanks very much for all the details you gave away in the forum and in my perspective you are well acquaint with Saudi environment. Please help me in providing the information on following queries: 1. Can I carry God idols through air? 2. I m Mohini from India and will shift in 2 weeks to riyadh, Can anyone suggest me good housing compound with indians around.and what is the rent approx or if there is any flat available in one of ur buildings pls inform.I have two kids so also want to know about indian schools in Riyadh.How is DPS school Riyadh and iis Riyadh??

How much SA Riyal need a couple to live in Riyadh ( Rent, food, medical and other expenses) and much we can save. Is Dependent can work in Riyadh.

My sister got one proposal in riyadh, He is earning SAR 6000. This will be enough to lead a normal life.
