    True..It's better for the OP to say a firm NO and temporarily spoil the relation instead of saying yes and suffering throughout life.

    I seriously can't understand this 'culture' of expecting one sibling to pay for the existence and luxury of the other. If your pil and her pil want the social function, they should either pay for it themselves or ask your sil and her husband to pay for it. Now that they are legally married and living together, they are family and whatever aspirations they have should be paid for out of their own pockets.....or forget those aspirations.
