IL Book of the Month - Dec '08 - Standing alone in Mecca

Hi all,

First of all my apologies for not opening the thread "IL Book of the Month - Nov '08".
I promise to do this regularly henceforth

So for December, (we have lost 2 weeks...again sorry!) Book of the Month would be "Standing alone in Mecca".

Sundarusha, it is one from your list and I hope you will open this thread with your comments!
I have not read the book, so have to refrain from writing any here but am waiting to hear from others who have read.

So Book lovers, do provide your inputs!

Dear Jenz

thank you for choosing my book recommendation.

This book narrates the author's trip to Mecca as a single Muslim mother who has a child out of wedlock. Having grown up in the US, she provides her thoughts and analysis of the conditions of the human rights for women in the Muslim world. She takes her stand against many orthodox Muslims to change theri mind-set on gender issues.
She was a jouranalist with Wall Street Journal ( I think). I highly recommend reading it.
