How do you define honoring God?

Does is mean visiting temple, doing puja, meditating?

Or perhaps, pouring over religious scriptures, anlyzing each and ever sloka, verse, and meter

Or is honoring God taking care of your current responsibilities?

Whatever comes your way, changing your perspective to think, this is what God wants me to do?

For instance, taking care of family, i.e. parents (past), spouse (present), children (future).

For me honouring God is.. respectfully accepting His decision in my life though it hurts at times.

Life is nothing but a series of experiences, good ones, greatet ones, bad ones. We all have tough times in life. We don't ask why me in any of our good times. Having the faith to not ask "why me ?" during difficult times.. but accepting the hardships believing that the God who put you to it will pull you through it, is honouring God.

My kids don't like certain choices I make for them , like limited TV time even during weekends. However, I still limit the TV time. I know they are not happy about it. That doesn't mean they don't respect me. As a mother I do what I know will be good for my kids. They have to deal with my choices believing that what I do is for their benefit.
When they are old enough they will realise that my intention is not to make them sad but to give them a better chance to do something else rather than lazily watching tv all day long.
Kids get upset because they don't have a control on my decision.
They cry and whinge but the decision won't change. They learnt to accept it.
Had they accepted it peacefully, they wouldn't have to cry.

Likewise God makes decisions about us based on what He thinks will be good for us. We can be unhappy about it. That doesn't mean not honouring God. We are human and it's normal to feel sad about God's decision for us. When the time is right, we will realise the reason behind God's decision. Sometimes we may not realise at all. That doesn't mean God's intention is to make us sad.
We get upset because we don't have control on God's decision.
We cry and get angry with God because we think we were dealt with unfairly.
But His decision won't change. We slowly learn to live with it. If we accept His choice gracefully, our lives will be lot more peaceful.

If you think about it, it's all the matter of us wanting to have control over situations, emotions, life, death, relationships etc.
Our sadness and frustrations come from not being able to have that control. We are very happy about things we can control but get upset over stuff that we cannot control.

A mother won't love a child based on what the child does for her. For a mother a child is a child and will love all her kids equally.
God will not work on our material stuff like pujas, understanding of scripture, visiting temples etc.
We do these because we need material assurance that God will look after us. But God works differently.
I don't mean to say that going to temples, performing Puja etc is meaningless..My point is doing all these things but failing to have basic trust in God and not being able to accept His decision, is not correct.

He needs us to trust him that his decision for us is made only out of love for us.
Having that level of trust is honouring God.

Am sorry if my post offends anyone.
These are just my opinions and what my life and my losses taught me

Good question. This is how I see it :)

God is inside you. Not in any temple, heaven or hell.
So never be disrespectful to self. Never say like " I hate myself" . When something good comes in our way never ask like if "I really deserve this "etc. You are a beautiful creation of god. So if you are degrading yourself then it is like degrading god.

The biggest service you can do to others is not to hurt/insult others by words or actions knowingly. Rest everything comes after that. So try to avoid unnecessary comments, remarks, judgements about others.

If someone is poking you either ignore them, then warn them then walk away from them.

Talk to god as a good friend. When you struggle in life, hold on to him tight. Spend more time with god. Do meditations, chants, listen to translations of Bagvad Geetha etc. When you are happy and peaceful in life. Thank god. Show your gratitude, be humble.

We are humans. We tend to deviate at times but come back to the source. When you make mistake ask sorry, same way learn to forgive and move on. Be kind and spread love.

    This is very well said.

Lot of times it is hard to accept God's decisions ... then I look to have gratitude for even the tiniest things.

    Yes, God is within us.

    Not in some temple.

    God is within us.

I feel bad for people who literally hit themselves because they don't like who they are.

They are away from God at this point,
