How to cook Thinai rice (fox tail millet)

    Now-a-days I am making pongal only with this thinai (fox tail millet rice). It is very tasty and also good for health.

    Hope you are doing well. I got time to come to IL after long time.
    All these dishes looks very healthy and yummy. Are those recipes present in IL forum? Did you try any recipe with varagu?

    Some of the dishes i have blogged others as and when i get a inspiration. chitvish maam has given some recipes in the feedbacks posts of hers.

    varagu-pongal, upma, pulao, puliyodharai, dosai, idli and adai and ofcourse sankaraipongal..

    Is this the same as quinoa? looks familiar but sounds unfamiliar.

    No Rakhii.. this is not quinoa.. This is millet similar to pearl couscous.. But these are very small and grainy.. It will be hearty meal.. I love this millet and make dosa, Upma or kichcadi out of it.. Very filling too

    I want to know where we get thinnai (fox tail millet) in Muscat. Cooking proceedure is just fry thinnai for some time then cook it as for rice ratio of rice to water 1:3

    Hello Shree & Rajameenakshi,

    I brought these from chennai. We do get pearl millet(kambhu) in LULU but i didnt find thinai or samo. Thinai( non husked) is available in Seeb Market. They sell it as bird feed. May be you can try it once Haridas Nensey Ruwi.
