MY DD is 7 years old.

Weekdays evening after homework, she has few activity classes so it keeps going..

Weekends is a drag.especially during winters.

There are hardly any kids to play with in the community and one lady has daughter same age an I’d tried shamelessly for many times for a play date but she keeps nudging and I left it.

How do young kids entertain themselves all day in the weekend? Especially during winters?
Also,as kids grow older..how do they deal during weekends?

Switch some of the weekdays classes to weekend
Go out to kid’s play spots where they can play games like chucky cheese
Some places have outdoor games like go arts, golf
Take them to library if they like reading
Movies in theatres . You can go early since they do advertisements for first 30 mins.
Involve them in house work like folding , sorting socks .
Michael art kits easily take couple of hours to finish .
Hot glue with dollar store items mix and match so much to create .
    Baking
    Cookie decoration
Play tent pretend and play if you have place
    Puppet play
    Hair styling kit
Mini kitchen - playing with them
Going to temple at least to look at other human beings
Last watching TV if nothing else works out

It is hard but in few years she will be so busy

I was about to write the things @mangaii wrote.
She beat me to it :)

In addition, it is important to know that there is no compulsion on parents to keep the child entertained. Boredom also is a very important part of growing up. Boredom helps them get creative.

Being alone is not the same as being lonely.

Let the child relax and pick her options from @mangaii 's suggestions

    Wow..a different way of thinking..

I always felt their minds have to be occupied and stressing myself also..

I try my best but sometimes she sees iPad the only option of bored and it makes me angry..

I will take your suggestions.Thank you:)

Also do you guys always do play dates every weekends?

I feel sad my kid do not have anyone close by and even if I try..it is only from my side and after once people get so busy to reciprocate:(

I would say, it is from first-hand experience.
Being an only child with no cousins my age, and living where there were no children my age, I know how to spend long summer holidays alone. :)

My father introduced me to my best buddies - books. When I was seven he took me to the Madras regional library in Mount Road (Now Anna Salai) and made me a member of the children's library.
I would go every week on my own and bring home books. Later on, I was member of British Council Libray, and the USIS library.
In the US library is so accessible to everyone. Our whole family makes full use of it.

I learnt sewing small handkerchiefs, then fabric painting, drawing, and then I would play with seven stones. I started a notebook of small rangolis. One summer my mom taught me chain stitch embroidery.
I would play with my dolls and cooking sets with imaginary friends.

My dad taught me how to handle tools safely, such as the screw driver, spanner, and pliers. He taught me to fix a fuse, and by 9 years old I learnt to iron my school uniform.

But all these were never forced. My parents made them seem like fun. The only thing I was scared of learning was cooking. :)

Reading. All four of us sit with books and read. Even the one with special needs loves to read(picture books). It's the best habit to have, they learn a lot by reading! My dad inculcated the reading habit in us early on. Even now, I share books with my family. We watch movies together or do chores together too but we read a lot around here.

This is critical. When the family sits down to read, the children also will do the same.
    A very important point @Laks09:thumbsup:
