Home Buying in Dunwoody/Sandy Springs/ Brookhaven area(near to Perimeter area)

Hi, We are trying to buy our first home near perimeter area, please advice from your experiences, as first time home buyer we are surprised how hard the :bonkprocess is especially since there are not many new constructions in the sandy springs/brookhaven area near the perimeter ctr,

Any experiences with townhomes, pros and cons between SF and Townhomes & Condos.
