Gurgaon is going to have five metro stations by the end of March. The officials had just declared that each of these stations will have parking facilities. This is indeed a good decision by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

Of these five stations, the largest parking area will be at the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:place><st1:placeName>HUDA</st1:placeName><st1:placeName>City</st1:placeName><st1:placeType>Center</st1:placeType></st1:place> Station with a space of 6,500 square meters.

The IFFCO Chowk, Sikanderpur, M.G.Road and Guru Dronacharya Metro Stations will also have parking lots, but not such large ones. These stations belong to the <st1:City><st1:place>Delhi</st1:place></st1:City> Metro’s under-construction Central Secretariat-Gurgaon corridor.

Trial runs of the 7 km-long elevated Gurgaon Metro Rail section will begin from January 29.

The new parking spaces in Gurgaon stations make the total parking space provided by the DMRC nearly 170,000 square meters in which approximately 15,000 four wheelers and 20,000 two wheelers can be accommodated.

The 12.53 kilometer long Central Secretariat – Qutub Minar section of the stretch is underground while the 14.47 kilometer long Qutub Minar – Gurgaon section is an elevated portion. This metro stretch connects north and central <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:City><st1:place>Delhi</st1:place></st1:City> to south <st1:City><st1:place>Delhi</st1:place></st1:City> and Gurgaon in Haryana.

59 of the 83 operational Metro Stations have parking lots, at present, for the convenience of commuters. The total number of parking lots in the Delhi Metro will go up to 64 after the Gurgaon section is opened.
