Hi Pallavi I've gone through all your post. From that I understood that Green building is nothing but using/allowing bright light during day time, utilising water efficiently & leak proof doors & windows. Green concept was there in India & especially TN since many years. Now we are forgetting & going for concrete blocks. As far as I remember old houses will have court yard at the centre to allow light & wind to entire house. I can talk only about my home & my grandparent's house. My home in Thiruvarur district of TN, India had two court yards one in the centre & the other at back yard. The centrecourt yard is surrounded by wide varandhas on 4 sides & rooms beside the varandahs with wide windows. Top of the courtyard is covered with Iron grill for safety. Over the grill a shed is erected in such a way that its fully( vertically) open at one side(usually open to windy side) so that it captures wind & allow it flow into the house. Apart from this under the tiled roof is packed with hollow bricks to minimise the heat. So even at peak summer we used to get nice cool breeze inside the house and do not feel the temperature. But we had to demolish it because the building had become very old. Even then we retained that court yard & built the house around it. So now also its as windy as ever. I think we have to again go back to our root in search of green living!!! Thanks for sharing so many information on this subject with us. Regards. chitra
Hey...You posted very useful info....Thanks a lot dearie!!!!!!!!! WIll try to follow in future if possible..
Thank you Chitra for coming in and adding your inputs too. And in simple terms it is nothing but best & optimum utilisation of Natural resources in the construction of the building & for the living. The same thing has been developed into a proper technology and certain codal provisions & certifications/ ratings have been introduced. Since, the population increased the available land per head is reducing (not only in India but all over the world). At that situations we may not be able to go for a house with a big back yard unlike earlier days (of course the example of your house is the best, if it can be like that every where now -a - days) hence, within the available land space, providing the facilities using the natural energies to the extent possible and reducing the waste during & after construction makes a greater part of Green building Techonology & study. And as you rightly said, we have to go back to our roots to save the earth. Pl do come in with your ideas & opinions into this. Thank you.
Now this is really a good news................. The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) has achieved a major milestone by crossing one-billion sq.ft. of registered building area comprising 1,505 projects. Of these, 436 are green home projects (2,96,000 dwelling units) amounting to a built-up area of over 443 million sq.ft.,
