Dear Satchi,

You are extremely capable of spinning a humorous snippet out of your pain and suffering. If @kkrish has an affinity to see from the spacecraft of the planet earth raising , the earth has natural love to have a closer look at you, it seems. Like Museums having a board, "Please don't touch", have you tried having signs, "Extreme fall risk" written up in person so that earth will have some sympathy towards you?

I started out my career of imitating a pumpkin many decades ago. Let us say when I was around 2 years of age. We lived in a rented house, but the relationship with the owners was extremely close-knit. All their relatives and friends knew my parents and called them Appa and Amma (because my sis used to call them that). In the spirit of that family feeling, my mom went over to their house one day because they wanted to make upma and did not know how to do it. Amma went to demonstrate. Their relatives daughter a year older than me was a handful or wait, she was two handfuls. When all the moms were in the kitchen, she and some other kids went up the stairs to the upper floor where my neighbours used to run a school. My investigative spirit being kindled very early in life (I even popped a beetle into my mouth once, in order to study the edible properties of beetles at a very early age), I followed them upstairs. When they came down, I did not know how else one did that other than by imitating a pumpkin or Humpty Dumpty. So I did that and ended up with a broken clavicle.

Later on in life, once I went to school, there was never a dearth of occasions when I demonstrated practically the properties of gravity as well as magnetism. I would gravitate towards earth, let out some blood (which by the way was full of iron), get a big, red wound, which would grow septic, then I'd get fever, get penicillin shots, after which the wound would start to heal ..... until I fell and broke open the same spot on my knee or shin ..... go back to the doctor, follow the same routine again and again ..... till the doctor got exasperated with me and told me not to come back to him the next time!!!

Broken chins, feet slit open with carving knives followed up with stitches were all in a days work. At some point, I got down to mulling over why the same wounds kept getting hit again and again. Fine, I could fall and get hurt, but why at the same spot? That made me mull over the theory of the magnetic properties of wounds. I seriously intended investigating this topic some day but various other jobs made me postpone this project. Until today. I tore a ligament in my ankle 3 weeks ago and had my leg in plaster. Over the last two days, the plaster suddenly took a serious dislike towards the inner aspect of my other ankle. At every occasion it has been lashing out and there is a tiny wound, whose appearance is quite deceptive. It is like one of those 'lavangi mirchis' which are small but are extremely spicy. That little wound hurts and also exhibits the magnetic property. Two consecutive days the plaster kept lashing out at the wound. Today I decided to get the plaster off. Believe it or not, the wound called out to my other foot while walking today and said 'aa bail mujhe maar'.

I think this topic of 'magnetic property of wounds' seriously merits investigation. Any sponsors for the study? Volunteers are also welcome.

Dear Satchi,
Newton found Law of Gravity based on apple falling from a tree. You framed another law from little prickly wounds!
Yes... Bigger wounds we are prepared but these small small wounds want their presence felt.
Balancing act in Hyderabad also between pavements and a step on the road..... do not understand whether to step on pavement which is more than a feet high and on road and we do not know about the bike which comes from the road to patchy soil in between the road and pavement. Hope you can visualise what i am writing.

I can relate to everything you have written here. Throughout my childhood, I used to constantly sport bandages on either my knees or the elbows! That falling trend continues even now, the differences being the missing bandages and less serious injuries!

I know that my laughing icon and my statement are adding insult to injury (pun intended); but what can I do? It is your fault for writing about your injuries with humor. I could not help the smile that did not leave my face till the end.

In Tamil there is a saying, "patta kaaley padum... " meaning the leg that gets hurt will get hurt over and over.
No rhyme or reason for this; perhaps it came after long observations. You would have made a good study subject .

No issues Kamala. When life give you lemons make lemonade. So when life gives me a chance, I try to get a good laugh out of it and am glad you liked the snippet. So this is a normal phenomenon - patta kaaley padum - though I would really like to know why. Till I find out, I shall stay content throwing brickbats at BBMP every possible opportunity!

I don't know about the 'extreme fall risk' board, Viswa. But certainly there is a board on my forehead (invisible to me in the mirror) which says 'aa bail mujhe maar' or 'I am stupid' (which only autorickshaw wallahs can see and demand Rs. 300/- fare for a 7 kms ride!!!)

Absolutely, Shyamala! We send up rockets with 108 satellites, but we are still incapable of making proper roads and user friendly pavements. So I can very well understand what you are describing.
