A running shoe store should be able to fit you for proper walking shoes as well. Most running shoes are worn by walkers as well. If you have a particular pronation or gait issue, the store will have a podiatrist recommendation for custom insoles but most stores have a good variety of different shoes for different types of foot strikes, plantar fascitis and other issues.
It is also a good idea to change your shoes when you start feeling it in your knees. It happens at 250 miles of wear for me. DH can wear his for 600 ish miles with no issues. Each person's wears differently but I can always feel it in my knees first.

Thank you so much for the links.
Yeah, I see few running shoe stores have the fitting and foot analysis. They do it like making us walk or run in the treadmill and analyse the gait. I am planning to try that store. Though u an not a runner and I need shoe just for regular use and walk ( I am not walking now and I hope to start in another month or two after my knee gets better).
I will take my old shoes too. The previous casual shoe which I was using is not a branded one. I just got it from Bata shop in India and I used that for walking 5 months back. That was not supposed to be good walking shoe. I used to walk in the hilly roads and that cause me the knee issues.
I just learnt now that a very good shoe is needed for walking. Unfitted shoe will surely cause injuries.

    Thanks @Laks09.
Yeah, I am planning to go to the running shoes store. I have patella issue now.(misaligned and moved higher). It's been there for past 5 months. Doing pt too. Doesn't help much.
PT did gait analysis and told me to try median arch support inserts. I am planning to get that. Before that, I want to get a proper shoe too.
I was using my old shoe for a long time. That too not very comfortable one. That might be a reason for my knee issue. I used to walk with that shoe for a long time.1 to 1.5 hrs a day.
I am totally naive in this shoe and fitness stuff. Just realised that a good shoe is really needed to walk to avoid any injuries. A silent injuries which keep us back for months.

    Thanks!!
I didn't check with podiatrist yet. My pt told me to try the OTC inserts .so I didn't think about podiatrist.
My knee issue is, Patella alta and Patellofemoral syndrome. This happened only because of my walking. I started a walking routine in the month of August last year. I used my old casual shoes(not branded) and go on the hilly roads. Those shoes were not very comfortable for me. I used to just go with it. Then I changed to my sketchers go walk casual ones. I did walk with this shoe for another few days. Then in the month of September I got this knee pain. Been to ortho and got mri and got diagnosis.
My PT said only because of my gait this issue would have started. So suggested me to have Inserts. Going to PT for last 3 months. Nothing helped. It takes time. Meanwhile ,trying to get new shoe with inserts.
Which sandal are you using at home? Can you give the link? So, you have inserts for the sandals?

Just got a question. Currently I am not walking everyday for an hour or two everyday because of my knee pain. I just walk when I go for shopping during weekends. That's it.
So, does the less walking frequency like these really need walking shoes ? Or we need to go for walking shoes only if we are having a walking routine everyday?

I wear them even while going grocery shopping etc. I fractured my foot once and since then have felt it’s best to wear my slightly worn running shoes when I’m out and about so I don’t hurt myself.

I took the Skecher go walk to India and came back with a limp and had to go for Physical therapy. If your feet pronate they are not a good fit. If you are looking for a good walking shoe, a good shoe store will evaluate and give the right shoe. Not necessarily the most expensive. Also SAS shoes- San Antonio shoes company, shoes are made in USA. You might want to check their website. Excellent for feet problems. Some expensive shoes made elsewhere have separate places to make right foot or left foot shoe and then they are packed together. Not a good idea.

    Thanks!!
I haven't heard about SAS shoes. Will see if i have one in my location. I am currently using sketchers go walk only. I used to go for walk in that shoe only. That's not very comfortable for me now.

Sandals doesn’t have any inserts .. only for shoes I use inserts for work .. sandals I use when am at home ( since am not supposed to walk on barefoot) .. here is the link for sandals ..
    ORA Recovery Flip

Over the counter inserts are not helpful so better check with a specialist who can make ex: insoles they take measurements and give you right one ..
