Gestational Diabetes Diet.. Help me pls

Thanq so much for your advice and tips yar.. and im happy to say that i controlled my glucose level doc told me to cont this diet through out my pregnancy

eat green leafy vegetables, avoid root vegetables as they are high on carbs.

eat cucumbers (low in calories), have spinach soups (low in calories)

nuts- badam is the one with lowest calories. eat 5-7 only.

all steamed food are low I calories- idli, try making oats idlies they are good, idiyappam too is low cal.

and eat salads, sprouted moong,

walk , don't skip it.

and try eating bran flakes instead of cornflakes.

6.00pm - one glass of milk with half tsp of protein powder(baby and me)
7.30pm - 3 chapatis or rotis with curry. (made afternoon)
9.00pm - one glass of milk.

am i taking correct food?
What are the veggies can i eat?
what are the veggies i should avoid?
can i take any snacks? if yes, what are they?

Please help me ...
i'm really stressed out Most of the time worrying
Actually i came to my home (from USA to india) for delivery, unfortunately i got diabetes. so its make me restless and worrying about my baby

Happy to inform you that my sugar level id controlled and doc told me to cont only this diet thro out my pregnancy I'm really happy now.

Can you have the protein powder with milk instead of cornflakes - the cornflakes stands out as sugary or processed food - rest seem ok - you could also try some ragi kanji or wheat daliya instead !!

You seem to take 4 glasses of milk everyday - are you able to digest it? you could replace 2 glasses milk with curd/buttermilk - will be easier on your hormonal tummy

Instead of idlis - you can sometimes have pesarettu or dosa or even stuffed veg (not potato, but greens or cauliflower) parathas without too much oil

Have greens regularly ( but avoid greens + milk/curd in same meal)

Avoid root vegetables - potato, carrot, beetroot etc

Have squashes and gourds - ridge gourd, bottle gourd, cucumber, ash gourd etc

For snack time - You can have guava and amla and apples, tangerines, mosambi, lemon juice etc - you can also have soups if your place is cold in coming winter - drink lots of water during the day

If you want a snack that you can have any time - grate cucumber, add some apple pieces - squeeze some lemon juice - add jeera powder or pepper powder with just a pinch of salt and enjoy - add sprouts if you're really hungry

Understand the difference between high calorie and high sugar and high glycemic index - if you consume a high glycemic index food even if it is low in calories, it will shoot up your sugar levels - The World's Healthiest Foods is a good website to understand this.

Take care of your teeth !! Brush twice daily

And keep yourself busy with some hobby or study or writing or activity - it is easy to get worried or dejected or depressed as the diabetes and the hormones will make you emotional.

Always keep yourself surrounded with loved ones and enjoy funny books and comedies. Listen to good music! If you like slokas you can listen to them too!

Dont miss doctors appointment and dont forget any instructions and steps!

Ensure you sit down if you feel dizzy - so be aware when you're doing your 45 minutes walking !!! Do it on flat surface

Dont worry about the insulin injections - it is temporary and you're doing it for your bundle of joy !! Just ensure that you keep your food ready and dont move around too much after the injections and before food !

When your delivery happens, inform and remind doctor about your gestational diabetes and ensure that your baby's sugar levels are checked after baby is born - usually they're born with a little lower levels - that will need to be checked - dont worry mostly babies are born healthy

Methi (fenugreek, vendhayam, menthulu) can be soaked and sprouted - it becomes very tasty and loses its bitterness - but a small handful everyday will keep your sugar levels stable
