Cabbage-Shredder This is available in S'pore for 1.50$. Infact a friend of mine got a similar Indian make piece for Rs 150 in an exhibition. This is very convenient for shredding cabbage.
Oil-Draining Ladles The following ladles are useful, when we want to deep fry small amounts of quick-cooking - nuts, vadams, manathakkali vathal, curry leaves, poha, gram dhal etc. Otherwise they tend to get scattered in the oil and by the time we collect them in the perforated ladle, they become brown. The one on left, I bought in Lifestyle and has a slanting handle. I bought the one on right in S'pore Japanese shop Dais for 2$. This has a vertical handle & is more convenient. Deep-frying karuvadams Deep-frying manathakkali vathal Deep frying channa dhal crispies The following is yet another small steamer cum drainer, I bought in Daiso. It can be used as a steamer to fit inside a vessel or as a drainer, held with tongs.
Kitchen Timer Kitchen timer is an essential gadget in the kitchen, according to me. When using the pressure cooker or pan, I simmer the gas once the whistle comes & set the timer for 10mts for rice, dhal etc. Rosogulla, soaked gram dhal etc require 7 mts. When deep frying kachoris, samosas, badushahs etc, it is safer to set the time, to avoid under-frying. The make Sunbeam is from the US (4$) & the metal one is from Lifestyle, bought 4 yrs back for Rs 250.
MW Dosa-maker from Daiso! Are you startled?? :biggrin2: I bought a 2$ pancake maker just to try small dosas in MW. The result is super!! This is a gadget with 2 discs. Brush with oil on one side. Spread a small dosa & trickle very little oil. Cover & cook for 1.30 mts on Hi. Take out & open. Flip & cook on the other side, again covered for 30 secs. Take out & serve. You will get soft dosais. This is ideal for an emergency when you have no time to take out tava & make. This morning, I tried cucumber oothappam also!
Nut Grater I use this a lot for grating nuts for sweets, grating peanuts for salad-topping as well as garnishing many dishes. This is from the U S Amazon.com: nut grater It grates fine & is very good. The following is an Anjali product available locally for Rs 130. It chops green chillies also.
Waffle Slicer I bought this in S'pore. Use it for shredding vertically. Use it for shredding horizontally specially for decorations.
