After marriage, I had 3 airline fractures in my ankle and was on plaster cast. At that time, I employed a maid servant to help me in bathing , doing dailywork & cooking.
At that time, I didn’t know hindi &she didn’t know tamil..

one day, I told her, that I wanted to shampoo my hair.

I went to bathroom for bath. The shampoo was kept on a rack, and I had my back towards it. I told the maid servant to take out the shampoo bottle. She could not read English and instead of the shampoo, she took out the Phenol bottle. Fortunately she showed it to me and I exclaimed, “Are Bhagwan. not this one” Imagine if the Phenol had been applied to my hair. Anyway, all is well that ends well and we both came out laughing!!!

Once after finishing breakfast, I kept everything ready for cooking. That day I was to make fried Seppakazhangu & Vettha Kuzhambu. I had boiled the Seppakazhangu and told the maid servant to peel off the skin. I went into another room for 5 mins. and when I returned to the kitchen,the Seppakazhangu had vanished!! ISurely the maid wouldn’t have eaten them. I asked her and to my dismay I discovered that she had put them all into the Vettha Kuzhambu which was boiling! A new tasteless recipe was born!

Dear Saikripa

Enjoyed reading your post. Its very difficult when does not know about the things otherwise we land into trouble. Good that u saw the shampoo bottle, otherwise I can imagine what would have happened. God only saved you.

About the cheppankizangu so that would have been cheppankizangu gravy instead of cheppankizangu roast.

Hi Sai,

Hope you don't mind me addressing like this...

In the first case she showed u the bottle before applying it but at the second instance she didn't wait to ask what's to be done with it..

My imagination had gone a little beyond..what would have happened if she had checked with you before putting the sepankezhangu in the vethakozhambu and not checked with you before applying the phenol? :spin.

Its always better to wait for sometime rather than ending up in confusions.

If she had washed with phenol, your hair would have been disinfected & most probably brittle.

Anyway how did the seppakhazungu vatthakuzmbu taste?

seppangizangu after wash it in the water, i made it roast curry .what to do?

Hi saikripa,

I remembered my own experiences reading your post. When i was back in India, we employed a lady for cooking who would not agree if she did not know a recipe.Once she made pulav and i wanted her to make raita to go with it. When i told her to make raita, she said okay but i could see that it didnt register in her mind. Moreover, she kept a blank face. I slowly was watching her what she would do. She went straight to the box of tamarind and was about to soak it. Ohhhh!!!!!!!!!! i screamed......... what she was upto!! She said i thought i was referring to tamarind raitha. Then i asked her to explain the recipe of the so-called 'tamarind raitha'......then she said she doesnt remember. I said you can make the tamarind raitha some other day but for that day asked her to make curd raitha.....!!

BTW, i didnt understand whats "seppakhazungu"??
