Jennifer / alaivani (nice user name) You have hit the nail ! Your post matches exactly to my mind set. After a stint of 1.5 years in Jamaica, when I went back to India, I realised I had a bit of Jamaican in me, and so used to say am 1/25th Jamaican When we live in a foreign country we open up to new ideas, new people, and are more accommadative & open to people who may not completely match to our wave-length and ideas of friends. Now that we have lived in US for almost 7 years now, sometimes I wonder if I have more "non-indian-ness" than to the level agreeable to my "only Indian" friends & family. I can feel that my ideas have changed a lot from my bros & sisters, so sometimes wonder if I would come-across as too aggressive/blunt when I go back to India for good. A very interesting thread ! Thanks for starting Laks !! Cheers, JM
I feel the opposite! I feel her in usa things r more superficial..not that in India it is better BUT.. u atleast have lots of people to interact with and hence no loneliness.. here u voluntarily get close and try to maintain due to scarcity of people whether we like them or not. that way u feel u r close.
