The connection between food and mood is an ancient one. The food that you eat is what that drives you through the day. Here are some foods that can make you feel down in the dumps.

Diet Soda: Even after much media reports about the damages that a carbonated drink can cause, people still love to take that sip as part of the mid morning or lunch break. Though these drinks can give you the initial rush, these drinks turn to fat in the body, which crashes your mood as well as builds calories. Aspartame that is largely found in sodas can cause depression and other neurological disorders. Regular drinking of diet soda is also shown to cause obesity.

Potato Chips: With the onset of winter, it is quite habitual for us to grab a pack of potato chips and watch the favorite show on television. Fried potato chips block omega-3 fatty acids which is an essential mood-enhancer chemical in the body. Instead, these are full of omega-6 fatty acids, which can ruin your mood.

Jams and Spreads: These are some of the quick fixes for breakfast, however, these are packed with high sugar and can really spike your sugar levels. Most jams have 49% sugar while marmalade and other spreads have up to 60% sugar.

Ready to Eat Cereals: If you check the label of any ready to eat cereal package, it contains about 56% sugar! This is true even in the case of instant oatmeal packs or natural fruit bars. Preparing oats or cereals at home can provide your more vitamins and complex carbohydrates that your body requires.

Flavored Yogurt: These foods have seven to eight spoons of sugar, which is three times more than what is found in plain yogurt. It comes with high fructose corn syrup and other artificial sweeteners, which doubles the flavor of the yogurt. Probiotics is good to treat depression but keep it plain or flavor it naturally at home.

Oh my GOD!!!!!!!!!!! Exept potato chips remaining all noramlly nobody thinks that they can spoil the mood..

Almost 100% of Americans live on flavored yogurt, oats and instant cereals, jams/jellies, soda and chips. Though they know it is not good for health, their life style is such that, they need to have breakfast on the go. They do not have elaborate items like idli,vada,pongal etc and hence the need for processed foods.

What is elaborate is all in the perception, I think. There is no short cut to health. If we need to keep healthy and fit, I guess, we will find the time to eat healthy, no matter how busy we are.

yes, you are right coolblues. We Indians take time to prepare healthy meals rather than to eat out of a box. Unfortunately, that is not the case with Americans and hence the obesity rate is too high here. Hopefully they change too!
