    Teething Biscuits

    TEETHING BISCUITS

Soya is an excellent source of vegetarian protein and also provides plenty of vitamin B12 that is needed for growing babies.
Chewing on these biscuits will not only comfort your baby's gums but will also provide her with folic acid, fibre, iron, vitamin A and calcium.
I have used ready-made soya flour available at Health Food Stores as I was not happy with the results of the soya flour I made at home using soyabeans.

    Ingredients
6 tablespoons whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta)
    5 tablespoons soya flour
    2 tablespoons honey
    1 tablespoon oil

    Method

    1. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and knead into a dough.

    2. Roll out into a 150 mm. x 75 mm. (6" x 3") sheet of 6 mm. (¼") thickness and cut into fingers [50 mm. (2") long and 12 mm. (1/2") wide].

    3. Place the fingers on a greased baking tray and bake in a pre-heated oven for 10 to 12 minutes at 180°C (360°F).

    4. When they are cool, store them in an air-tight container.

    Sauteed Spinach

    SAUTEED SPINACH**

    1. Thoroughly cleanse fresh spinach and pick out damaged leaves
    2. Heat olive oil in a frying pan
    3. Place spinach in the pan with the heated olive oil and sauté until tender. Leaves will shrink and appear wilted when done.
    4. Puree spinach in blender or food processor,
    5. Add fresh water until mixture is of the desired consistency.
Add some spices such as garlic, basil or onion powder if baby is able to have these spices.

**Nitrate risk! Do not serve homemade spinach to an infant under 10 months old! Spinach puree MUST be immediately eaten, frozen or stored in the refrigerator! Studies done on spinach and nitrates in particular have shown that with improper storage and preparation, the nitrate levels may actually increase. Proper preparation and immediate use or storing via freezer method will help eliminate this risk in leafy vegetables

    Scrambled Eggs with Cheese

    Scrambled Eggs with Cheese

    for 10 months and older

    Ingredients:

2 eggs*(for babies under 12 months, just use the egg yolks)
    2 tbs formula or milk
2 tbs shredded mild cheddar or american cheese
    1/2 tsp butter

    Instructions:

1.) Whip the eggs & milk until foamy. Add cheese.
2.) Add the butter to a small frying pan and allow to melt and cover the bottom of pan. Cook the mixture in pan over medium heat for about 4 minutes. Stir constantly to keep the eggs moist and not crispy.
3.) Cool to warm & serve.

    * Ask your pediatrician if your baby is ready for eggs. . . Babies can have egg yolks from 10 months, but they can't fully digest the whites, so leave these out until your baby is a year old. For your babys first feedings give a very small portion to make sure allergies wont develop. Eggs contain all 22 amino acids bodies need for new tissue growth, the clotting or blood and antibody formation, and are a very good source of protein. Eggs are a good supplement if your baby wont eat meats yet.

    Chickoo Milk Shake

    CHICKOO MILK SHAKE

Chickoo is another very baby friendly fruit because of its natural sweetness, mild flavour and easy to swallow texture. Most babies relish chickoos, and so I have added milk to supplement it with calcium, protein and vitamin A. It is important to remember to remove the pith carefully and to peel off a nice thick layer of the skin, as these portions can hinder your baby's digestion, especially till the age of 1 year.your baby's digestion, especially till the age of 1 year.

    Ingredients
1/4 cup chickoo, peeled, deseeded and chopped
    3/4 cup milk

    Method

    1. Blend the ingredients together in a liquidiser and serve immediately.

    Fruity Phirni

    FRUITY PHIRNI

Creamy and yummy! Another version of rice porridge that's perked up with fruits. The rice flour makes the phirnee creamy and smooth in texture and is great for babies who do not like fruits or milk. This dish is a good source of energy, protein, vitamin A and calcium.

    Ingredients
    1 cup milk
    1 1/2 teaspoons rice flour
    1 tablespoon jaggery (gur), grated
3 tablespoons fresh fruit purée (strawberry or peach or apricot or mango)

    Method

    1. Bring the milk to a boil in a non-stick pan and add the rice flour.

    2. Mix well and simmer till the rice is cooked (7 to 8 minutes).

    3. Add the jaggery and mix well till the jaggery dissolves.

    4. Cool and add the fruit purée. Serve at room temperature.
