My son also had mild dilation at his 20 week scan. The doctor asked us to come back for a repeat scan after a month. The dilation had cleared up by then. In 97% of the cases dilation of the renal pelvis clears up on its own before birth. Your doctor should schedule a scan during the third trimester to make sure the condition has corrected itself. Complications are quite rare. Is your baby a boy? Renal pelviectasis is much more common in boy babies than girls. Take care.

Don’t worry about renal pelviectasis dear. 4.3 mm is a mild case and should get resolved by itself over the course of pregnancy. My baby too has a bit enlarged kidneys on both sides and Doctor said that it should be resolved on its own. I have another scan next month to check the status. I am very sure both our babies will be fine :)

BTW, I also wrote a detail post in our DD club.

    Take care!
