Whom do you call a fake doctor? One who practices medicine and surgery without undergoing any course in medical colleges or having undergone a course in one form of medicine switches over to treating in an entirely different form?
How do they prosper? Is it only in India? Are there no fake doctors in western countries like UK & USA?
I think fake doctors in India thrive because there is no law to curb them. They thrive because of the ignorance of masses . Some of the fake doctors are so good that they hoodwink even the educated.
Years back, in Govt General hospital a person with higher secondary qualification was posing as an orthopedic surgeon without detection for a couple of years.
I was worried to learn there are fake nurses employed in private hospitals. They had no training in nursing , but learn some tricks of the trade where they work for a pittance of salary
Some times when we look at the prescription of some doctors , I wonder whether they are real or fake doctors
Often a few patients produce fake medical bills for claiming reimbursement from their employers. Once I was shocked to find one such bill in which the doctor has counter signed on the bill without even perusing it. The doctor had certified that he had treated him for PILES (Bleeding from anus). but the pharmacy bill showed items like toothpaste, shampoo and mint
The pharmacist in the shop had forgotten to fake the bill which was also overlooked by the doctor who was an accomplice in this trade. Since then he came to be known as PILE'S specialist.
Faking is a great art. A colleague of mine passed his viva voce examination by speaking to the examiner on the previous day faking the voice of a popular minister.

Fake currencies, fake gold, fake companies, fake police, fake universities& colleges, the list is endless. Almighty save us!!

    Dear Gopalan

True many people produce fake medical bills to claim reimbursement. But you have mentioned is a limit. How do the employers allow these kind of medical bills.

    Regards

    Dear Mrs Viji

When the employers doubt the veracity of a claim they generally forward it to chief medical officer of the station or district for its genuineness I remember this particular case, Apart three regular medicines, it contained the above mentioned items.
We had a greater surprise when we went deeper into the matter. There was no medical shop at all in that name or address
All we could do was to transfer the doctor. Greater punishment could not be meted out as there was pressure from higher ups.
The employee after some inquiry had a pay reduction and there ended the matter. Due to wide spread misuse of medical reimbursement. the central govt abolished the scheme subsequently..

    Sir
You talk about fake doctors and fake illnesses. What about the fake medicines? Recently I heard a discussion on TV on fake medicines and date expired drugs. If we hoodwink ourselves how do we face the world and where is our credibility? Who will believe us? In fact though I buy all my medicines from a very reputed outlet, I do have a tinge of uncertainity when I pop a tablet into my mouth. Thank God I am one of those who resort to drugs only if it is absolutely necessary and bear minor aches and pains silently!

A recent report from the city of Coimbatore, published in tamil daily Dinamalar today, is causing more alarm. There have arisen many clinical laboratories which are managed not by qualified people, but by certain unscrupulous individuals who had worked for some time in labs and soon start their own laboratories which are favoured by greedy medical men.It has come to light that these labs fake their reports to mint money for themselves and to the medical men who support them. Each acts like a tout for the other.
The most agonising aspect is there is no agency to check these mushrooming labs which are not run by qualified people.
Does anyone have any idea who should police these fellows who run small labs with the connivance of black sheep of medical profession?

I am really worried about the increase in the "fakes" everywhere.

    @ Viji mami,

This is really an arrogant thing to show toothpaste in a medical bill.

Yeah , Quacks are around...I do not support that, specially in life related matters.....But ....a story
Interestingly I knew of a person who worked in Engineering Research field for years , I was talking to him , he confided..that he simply a 10th pass..
And you know what he has 7 patents in his name...that is 10 yrs back , I have heard they are hundreds by now...
He said no one was willing to give me job even though he had talent...He tried convincing with truth ...but only his fake degree helped him...Anyways he has been bestowed with honorary Doctorate.....

I know many of poeple who studied fromy cropped up donation Engineering colleges in Maharashtra and they cannot even explain simple electronics...

I dont know what is value of a degree stamp...if even though people have it are equivalent to fake degrees...

    Inc,
Thanks for adding more fake matter. Faking in different fields seems to be a universal phenomenon, but with this difference. In my India. in spite of several civil and criminal procedure codes, criminals continue to thrive and enjoy position and respect in society. Atleast in USA , if caught for such offences, the punishments appear to be lifelong.
Here is an interesting cheating case by a doctor in US faking Medicaid bills

Yours fake matter is absolutely serious...
Whereas mine is just something else point toward education system...

I know fake docs are many In India..I really fear going to small time until they display their certificates and also put their reg number in prescription..

I was wondering is there a way to check the registration number vs name and details of doc online..if not then we need that..

I suppose you are a doc , Am I correct , ? If yes then let us know how to figure out quacks...
