Faced with a what should I do situation!!!
A friend of mine has kept his gun in safe custody with me. He comes and asks for his gun. I see that he is not in his usual self and looks agitated and angry.

Should I return the gun to him?

Ji, I hope and pray that its an imaginary situation...... Well,
1.you can buy some time faking to have misplaced the key to the locker at home..in the mean time talking to him gently in a pleasant voice about the reason for returning it. It might provide a rewind in his case, which might have started to soften the impact of any incident triggering this situation...an opportunity in your case, to cool him off.

2.As a trusted friend you can warn him , refuse to give, but talk about things first.

3.You can still give if the gun is not loaded, but make sure that he doesnt do that after leaving your place.

Finally i hope and pray that none of friends possess a gun, esp a loaded one.

    Imaginary situation?????
Tell him you do not have his gun...if it is a real situation. It is ok to lie sometimes. Preaching good goody things would not work.

Very sound advice! But what if he does not listen to my talk, talk and insists that I rerun the gun. He is friend, no doubt but then I will be failing in my duty if I do not return the gun kept with me in good faith.
    This is the Dharm Samkat.

Let us assume that it is an imaginary situation! I do everything as suggested within my persuasive skill to calm him down. It is my moral duty and obligation as a friend. It does not matter if it is loaded or not as he can always load it if he wants to.
But then, he insists and I am reminded of my another moral obligation to return the deposit kept with me. If I return, I take the risk of his hurting someone or himself, If I don't I take the risk of being not trustworthy.

Imaginary or real, it is a possibility. Preaching goody goody things may or may not calm him down and come to his senses but no harm in making a try.
Can speak a lie and defer the situation from my side but he may do something else to do what he wants to do like killing someone. As a friend I have to look after his long term interest.
On the other hand, who am I to refuse to return the deposit he kept with me in good faith.

    Dear Hariji,
One need not be a Satya Harischandra when you know that a thing deposited with you in good faith as you mentioned ,is going to kill someone. Give a try with a moral lecture . If it works fine it's ok. If not you need not go through a guilt trip that he killed with the returned gun kept in good "faith"!!!

yes, as shyamalaaaa1234 has said, when we hv to choose between saving lives and being honest I would go for saving lives and saving the friend from committing a crime, also saving myself from facing a gun among other things...ji.

:hello:Assuming that you have permission of authorities to possess or licensed to own, you have two alternatives.
    1. You know passage of time cure things and even his notion against some one or his family member or members. So offer him something that can cool him and then try to lock him up.
    2. You pretend that gun is safe in bank locker but lost the key and so would take time to return the gun. He might go but he could buy another gun to finish his target. So you sweet talk him and drag to some god-forsaken place, leave him there and return to warn his target or family members and authorities too.
    3. In this process you might earn your friend’s displeasure and you could turn his target and so beware. .......

God Bless. (Both your friend & you)
