    Evil and Free Will

If there is evil, there is free will to win over it. There is much less evil and injustice on the planet earth as compared to the vast spread of love and understanding. Yet, it is more visible than good, love and understanding which makes us believe that there is evil all around us.

But evil is necessary. Without evil, free will is impossible and without free will there can be no growth, no forward movement, no chance for us to become humans. It is for evil only that we to stand in the face of evil and injustice and use our free will to defeat them. If there was no evil, where would we use this potent force?

Free will leads to enquiry and enquiry leads to realisation which in turn leads to changing what is not acceptable. Growth is possible only when there is scope for doing differently and freedom for not to tread the troden path.

Without evil, virtue cannot be known. Bad and good coexist. The progression has to be from bad to good, good to better and better to best. It is evil that makes this possible. If there was no evil, this progression wouldn't be possible.

If we look around, we see growth, which is also called change. We have come a long way from being hunters to social animals who can live together, help each other. This happened because of free will to suppress evil.

Fortunately Evil can be defeated. This is pissible because of Love. Love is predominantly universal in all living beings, including the evil ones. There is no life without Love. Love will always overcome evil, however all powerful it may seem to be.

So don't grudge evil or evil people. They need help, not condemnation. It is because of them that we can use our free will and help them thereby helping ourselves. We have to be thankful that evil lives in us, with us, around us to encourage and motivate us to rise to the higher realms of humanity.

    Dear Hariji,
There is a point in what you wrote.
Evil is given prominence in media....news papers T.V etc. It gives an impression that only evil is around us. Good does not come into picture.....where is the point of growth?
At a personal level I agree....we can improve and use free will to ward off the evil....love etc. And the tools you mentioned. Nobody is completely evil or completely good. A combination of both. Sometimes one is predominant. Yes, we can improve on ourselves with free will and some effort.

    Dear Hari,
God has bestowed upon us the free will to use it appropriately and according to the situation. Each one of us have a mixture of good and bad qualities.
The great Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar has said in his Thirukkural,
    குணம்நாடிக் குற்றம் நாடி அவற்றுள்
    மிகை நாடி மிக்கக் கொளல்.
Meaning: After scrutinizing a person's good and bad qualities judge him as good or bad according to the most good or bad qualities he possesses.

Yes , in the ho halla of media we forget that good things are happening around us. They project evil because that seems to be selling. But then there are good things reported but we do not emulate such things.

    And Kabir said:
"Bura jo dekhan mai gaya , bura na miliya koy,
Jo dil khojun apno, mujhse bura na koy'
Meaning : I went to look out for the evil people and found none, if i look into my heart, there is no one worse than me"
This is the crux of all evils. However there are good meaning around, more than the evil ones. They live among us. Somehow we do not see them.

What is your opinion on Yuga.

Satay Yuga ... everyone is good ... cow standing on four legs

Treta Yuga ... most people are good ... cow standing on three legs

Dvarpa Yuga ... less percent people good ... cow standing on two legs

Kali Yuga ... today's world ... cow standing on one leg

Maybe we are meant to be enlightened beams of energy.
