The Ministry of Women and Child Development (Government of India) celebrates International Women’s Day, 2010 in collaboration with Natya Vriksha as they present “AVAL” (She). This is a presentation by Bharatnatyam dancer Geeta Chandran and her disciples of Natya Vriksha Dance Company.

The venue will be the HAMCO Auditorium of Chinmaya Mission at 89, Lodhi Road, New Delhi- 110003.
The programe starts at 7 pm (March 8, 2010, Monday).

In this performance, the choreographer and dancers explore questions of identity. AVAL juxtaposes contemporary prose and poetry with traditional narratives. It creates a collage of images that reflect the complex realities of being a woman in India on this day.

Hungarian Center will host the “Perception” exhibiton from March 9, Tuesday, i.e. today. It will continue till April 1, 2010. “Perception” will be an exhibition of ceramics by Mariann Ban and photographs by Gabor Mate and it will be open on weekdays only. It will open at 10 am and will remain open till 4 pm.

This exhibition was created after the publication of a book detailing Mariann Ban’s work, titled “Sound of Clay” which was written by Gabriella Kernacs, designed by Janos Flohr and featured photographs by Gabor Mate. The exhibition displays Ban’s curious clay and porcelain figures with photographs by Mate in which he tries to formulate his view about the sense and meaning of her creations using forced perspectives.

    Dear Madhuja,

Thank you so much for this post. I, too, am interested about the Theatre Festival. This festival, I gather, is being presented as a collaboration of NSD, ICCR and Jamia Milia Islamia University.
The festival will feature a total number of 14 plays from Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives and India.

Nati Binodini in Hindi and Colombo Colombo in Sinhala and English were staged on March 8. Sakubai in Hindi and Putaliko Ghar in Nepali were staged on March 9. One of my friends went to see “Sakubai” and was very impressed with it.
    :thumbsup

Australia won their first Hockey World Cup in 24 years, defeating Germany 2-1 in the 2010 World Cup Final in New Delhi on March 12, Friday.
This encounter was the third consecutive World Cup Final to be competed by the hockey teams of Australia and Germany, with Germany winning the two previous finals.

The victory on Friday was Australia’s second ever Hockey World Cup title and it puts Australia back as the world’s number one ranked hockey team.

With the opponents ranked first and second in the world, it was always going to be a tensed final, with Germany aiming to become the first country to win three consecutive World Cup titles.

    Anandi,

I was fortunate enough to be in the stadium. The Australians looked to strike early, as they have done so many times throughout the tournament.
The young Tasmanian, Eddie Ockenden, displayed individual brilliance as he showed elite ball control skill to beat the goalkeeper and score the first goal of the match at the sixth minute.
Germany got an opportunity to respond when they were awarded a penalty corner after working the ball onto Luke Doerner’s foot in the circle. But the shot to the goal was a little wide.

Australia seemed determined to make it as difficult for Germany as possible and they placed an enormous pressure on Germany’s back half.
Finally, Australia won the match 2-1.
    :clap
