    Hi all

I usually trace design on fabrics using chalk powder for dark colour ones and shoe polish for light colour dress materials.... One of my friend said we shouldn't use shoe polish on fabrics.... Anyone anyone suggest alternative for the same....

    hi bhuvana,

you get both white and black as sunkan said and also you get a little darker yellow carbon special for fabric tracing...since black and blue leave smudges.....try them out.... shoe polish will leave a mark...i was wondering about why you were outlining the edges so dark....

    Hi bhuvana,

Carbon paper (black or white depending on the fabric used)
as shanthi & sunkan has suggested.

    hi bhuvana!
there is another way which the embroidery shop people do... prick holes on the tracing paper along the design.. and then u will get tracing powder in india... mix it with kerosene and with cotton u can use that solution and dab on the tracing paper putting it on the fabric... it will work.. i use the same technique

Hi where do we get tracing powder in India? Being living in Singapore, is there anything alternative to kerosene?
    Thanks.

    Hi Bhuvana,

The method is what Anooch has said is exactly what my embroidery teacher do for me.

    But u have to
    1. Trace the design in a Tracing paper.
    2. Using gondusee (pin) u have to put holes at equal distance.
    3. U get a white powder
    4. Take cotton . Dip in kerosene . Dab it it the white powder.
    5. Keep the fabric in which u need the design to be put
    6. Keep the pinholed design on top of the fabric . Dab the cotton dipped in kerosene & White powder on the design.
    7. U will get the required design in the fabric.

Here in Hyderabed we get readymade design & powder . I don't know how good it is. I will try & if it is good , when I come to Chennai I will get some designs for u.

    Hi Prabha,
Thanks for the info. Then how do you make patterns? Do you buy VARDHA embroidery book collection?
    Cheers
