    Doubts regarding kutch work

    Hi ladies

I'm going to start kutch work on my cotton salwar.
Can u ladies guide me in choosing needle and thread type?
And also specify the number of strands of thread to be used.

    Thanks
    Shobana.

    Re: Doubts regarding kutch work

    Hi Shobana:

My preference is for cone thread with single strand. Please take a look at the two hreads wherein I have posted photos of kutch work done using cone thread. I also find the cotton thread (Again, single strand only) avalable in Bombay Stores, in Raja Market which is in , Chickpet ,Bangalore. The only issue here is it is available in loose and you have to wind it. The range of colors available is amazing.
With both these threads, I am able to make quick progress. Pls ensure that the color does not bleed, before you start your work. Also, the needle you buy must have a hole whose size should match the thread size. The shop keeper should be able to help you out in this regard.

My embroidery teacher uses silk thread (Natesan brand) , again available in the shop mentioned above. She uses 3 strands. The beauty here is that you can add a glittering bead in the last turn, in your work. It gives a beautiful effect. The flip side is that , if you are not used to using silk thread, like, me, it can be a little tedious as you have to guard against knots and the thread getting entangled.

    Happy Kutch working !

    Rregards
    Meena K

    hi shobana :hiya
first, what level of kutch are you familiar with? have you done any kutch, if yes what material?
usually, we use anchor stranded cotton for kutch, 2 strands wil give you a v good finish; needle should be a no : 10/12 sharp- so that it does not make a hole in the fabric. if you havent done many projects in kutch, you can 2 different colours - i.e., 1 colour for base, and 1 contrasting colour for interlacing. you can use pearl cotton on on upholstery as the thread is thick and does not give a delicate finish!
you can have a look at my thread :[IMG] Poll: Embroidery : Kutch work instructions

    to clear any doubts.

    Re: Doubts regarding kutch work

    Hi theartisticone

I'm a beginner in kutch work.I have tried out some samples with the anchor cotton thread after seeing the threads explaining kutch work as I liked it a lot.
This is the first time i'm going to work out in a salwar material.
So i just want to be clear about the work.
    Thank you for ur guidance.

    Shobana
