    Educated Provides Wings to Children

लडकापढ़ायातोफुर्र!! ( Ladka padhaya to Furrrr)

After 'Note Tuta to Furrr', another is 'Ladka padhaya to Furrr' which literally means once a son is educated he flies like birds. There is no mention of girls because they were considered 'Paraya Dhan' (Property other family ) and as such never got educated in the literal sense. Again, it does not apply to all sons, because all sons are not alike and also because for their future it is necessary that they are properly educated. However whosoever said it, might have said it with a very heavy heart.

Sons or daughters it is the responsibility of those giving them birth that they receive proper education in addition to proper family and social values also- Sanskar. Parents, who fail to do it have to repent for rest of their life for spilling the career of their children.

There is another side of it. After education, particularly, boys, look for opportunities outside, just like birds flying away once their wings allow them. Again, not only educated, uneducated also migrate to other places for better opportunities or simply because grass is greener on the other side. There is nothing wrong in it. What is wrong is forgetting their parents and roots.

In the western countries, it is rather encouraged. Every child of 25 years of age, is expected to earn, settle and live his or her own life. Anyone staying with parents after 25-30 is an indication of something wrong. It may also be because elders are well taken care of in these countries by the social security system and are no burden on their children. It is enough if they call at intervals and visit once or twice in a year.

In India, because there is nothing called social security for all, parents have to live on their own savings or look for help from their children. The situation is graver during sickness and hospitalization. The country, now is witnessing a surge of old age homes of all types, free, reasonably priced, high end and exclusive. More and more young population is moving to foreign lands. More and more young families do not want to live with parents anymore. All this is not wrong, what is wrong is neglecting parents in their old age.

In old age, parents need emotional support more than material support. Their needs become more and more basic. Some parents may be in position to take care of their material needs but they too need emotional support and here is where it hurts the most.

No wonder, they may think, what they got in return after spending all their earnings, energy and love on their children.

I however, think, parents should do their duty and expect nothing in return simply because they were responsible for bringing them in this world. Expectations are the root cause of all our miseries and unhappiness. They did their part, let the children do their part if they so wish and feel. Parents should,be happy that their efforts and labor have not gone in vain and their children are leading a comfortable life.

More importantly, it will depend upon the cultural conditioning provided by parents to their children by doing their duty as children towards their own parents. Our children will follow our example, educated or not, far or near, boys or girls.

Blessed are the parents whose children are taking care of them in old age.

    :hello:

Because educated parents is fully aware the value and importance of educating their wards. But illiterates parents too in modern societies get to realise the value of literacy and illiterate domestic helps prefer to send their kids to schools and even to convent schools. Some even prefer convert to another religion to get benefits of free education to their wards. An illiterate mother in a Chennai educated her only son when spouse ran away. From school to mba in IIM AHEMEDABAD, her son Subramanyam turned entrepreneur a Padmasri awarded recalled how mom toiled be making and selling only idlis to get her son enviable to others. He owned SUBIKSHA - chain of supermarket outlets all over in Tamilnadu.

in modern context it is applicable with equal force for girls too.

That includes orphans and throw away kids.

But corallery too is equally true. Educated PhDs too roaming in street or in jobs not connected with their educational or and professional qualification. Career spoiled by their own action nor parents involved. I have seen parents repent with their highly qualified children .

Nurses of Kerala in UAE were in great demand by educated boys in Kerala and outside Bharat as well.

Why to compare with situation only in west? Why not with East including China & Far East. Bharat basis are migrating to eastern lands that includes Australia.

But neglected children forgetting their past help parents in old age in my area. Bickering Parents, hitting each other over the behaviour of other. He drinks & she .... those who can afford help monetarily and puttheir parents in expensive cozy retirement homes. Emotional help from distanced children far and few between via FaceTime/Skype . There also Mil - SIL verbal pyrotechniques goes on while husbands read sons remain mute spectator.

    Comments as above.

Easy to say but parents carry at the back of the mind their expectation unless they have speakable savings in cash and possess properties.

Children loath visiting grand parents later especially when they grow up neither they like to visit in the other land nor they welcome old parents in their foreign land.
By the time boy or girl realises their parents were only doing lot of good and right to them they themselves have children who say their parents are wrong.

Quite true. Such “parents stars” are still whirling strong.

    Thanks and Regards.

    Dear Shri Thyagarajan,
Wonderful point by point feedback. I also heard the story of Subramanyam. Hats off to the single mother. Education by itself is no guarantee for a good paying job and it also true that some do not get what they want or what their qualification deserves. A friend of mine, lover of classical music, was working as a packing and forwarding manager in a auto parts manufacturing company always surrounded by music of different type by way of hammers hitting nails closing the boxes.
But that is life. Girls are doing much better but they have new responsibilities of their own in their homes. Sometimes they fare much better than the sons.
Having motivated and sent their sons abroad and expecting them to be on their beck and call is expecting too much.

Yes Ma'am, I did and liked it.
I have parents who did everything to ensure that their children go to America in particular, feel sorry when their children are not in a position to come and visit them as frequently as they want. They tried to live with them but soon got bored and lonely.
The basic point is, we have to allow them to lives their lives just as we lived ours.

I do not know if it still is there but there was a condition for admission to a Government Medical College that after completion of their course, the doctors will serve in the rural area for five years and they had to sign a bond. Hardly anyone did. They found some loopwhole or paid the bond money.
Many left for specialasation abroad under a bond that after completion they will return bit no one returned. They found some loopwhole.

Children should not be conditioned in any way culturally or otherwise but taught the basic human values by parents. Yes, education can provide wings to children, if it teaches them to think independently instead of indoctrinating them in any way.

    Dear Balajee,
Conditioning comes automatically as they observe their parents very closely and think this is what is right, even though it may not be right. Like parents treating their own parents.
Education is definitely to make mind free but not free from obligations. In our growing years we had and still have our own independent views on many issues and that is fine. In fact, it is needed other progress will get stagnated.
