I have read your posts. Thank you for helping prospective Delhi University students.
I have two small questions.I am interested in Journalism course. Does DU have a journalism course? What is the admission procedure for SC candidates?

    Hi,
Here are the details for reservation of SC/ST seats.
Candidates who seek reservation for seats belonging to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes and OBC should have the relevant caste certificate in their name. OBC candidates should ensure that their caste is mentioned in the Central list for OBC.

22.5% of the total number of seats is reserved for SC/ST candidates. Candidates have to get their names registered at any of the following three registration centres :
    a) Office of the Deputy Dean, Students Welfare, DU North Campus
    b) <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:placeName w:st="on">Rajdhani</st1:placeName> <st1:placeType w:st="on">College</st1:placeType>, <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placeName w:st="on">Raja</st1:placeName> <st1:placeType w:st="on">Garden</st1:placeType></st1:place>
    c) <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placeName w:st="on">Shyam</st1:placeName> <st1:placeName w:st="on">Lal</st1:placeName> <st1:placeType w:st="on">College</st1:placeType></st1:place>, Shahdara
    d) Arts Faculty, North Campus

    Dear Bandanaji
I have secured around 80% in economics. I am sure I wont be able to get through to Hindu or St Stephens. Should I try out other colleges?
What is the scope of Eco Hons?

    Dear Aparna
It has been stressed time and again at Open Houses to go in for course over college. Even if you don’t get into Hindu or St Stephens, you can try for other good colleges.
B.A. Economics honours is a course with good career prospects especially for a consistent academic performer all the three years.
Many Eco Hons students aim to join the Indian Administrative Services (IAS). Then comes the option with the Banking, Insurance and Stock trading (share market) industries. Some students also go in for MBA after graduation to enhance their career prospects. Finally, with the enhanced pay scales after the Sixth Pay Commission, teaching both at the college and school level is a great option.

    Dear Sanjam
Here is an important piece of information. In addition to sitting for the CATE exam, the University has asked all aspirants to apply to the preferred colleges through the OMR or the individual form.
The University says that this will enable the University to know how many of the total students appearing for CATE are actually serious about the course.

I feel that the CATE is a good step especially for <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Delhi</st1:City></st1:place> students who have for some reason scored low in the English subject in class XII By doing well in CATE, they have a chance to get into leading North Campus colleges offering the course

These are all girls’ colleges so your brother is not likely to get admission. However, this year <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placeName w:st="on">Dyal</st1:placeName> <st1:placeName w:st="on">Singh</st1:placeName> <st1:placeType w:st="on">College</st1:placeType></st1:place> has been granted approval to start the course. <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placeName w:st="on">Dyal</st1:placeName> <st1:placeName w:st="on">Singh</st1:placeName> <st1:placeType w:st="on">College</st1:placeType></st1:place> will start the course as and when approval from regulatory bodies like the NCTE comes through.

The course is popular with girls as you can get a job in elementary schools quite easily after qualification.
