I am located in India. This question is directed to working ladies, on those days of the month when you have period and heavy bleeding and cramps, you may require a day or two off in case it's not manageable. It's very easy to request a female boss or female team lead...but what if you're not reporting to a lady boss but to a male boss.

In this situation which happens often , and for those of us reporting to male bosses or male lead or male senior ,what would be the best way to ask for leave. Should we mention exact reason. Are people more sympathetic and considerate more inclined to grant leave if they know the problem exact reason. Everytime we can't say fever cough cold etc if questioned for being unwell.

It's too personal and emabrassing to share i know..easier to just call in sick or ask for a personal day off.. but ladies who have a genuine gynaec issue or some irregularity.. maybe too drained out during menses and may require more flexibility and sometime off if the pain is too bad..possibly some doc appointments too..in a monthly basis.
Would be tough to even connect remotely for calls in such situation.

If the problem is understood will it be easier to get flexibility?

Please suggest ?asking in Indian Scenario. Not foreign country.

Just say you need to take sick leave. Do you have to provide a doctors note?

no..its not required as of now, 1 day a month in a month is not an issue. but if an employee is taking sick leaves often they would be questioned.
